The player picks a side and assumes the role of a general - the game features Rome, the Parthian Empire, the Kushan Empire and the Chinese Han dynasty - those were the largest empires of the period. The gameplay formula employed here was based on two pillars. Spectacular, fast-paced action is the first of them; the player takes part in direct combat against enemy forces. The game stands out with an extensive combat system - not only is one's effectiveness dependant on the weapon used and technique applied, but also on the kind of armor the enemy is using. The second of the pillars mentioned is constituted by the strategic aspects. What is significant here, is that the player has to command armies comprised of both regular soldiers and adjutants gifted with special abilities. Being able to apply adequate tactics, as well as putting one's units into a formation that corresponds to the topography of the battlefield is the key to success here. Furthermore, the game comes with a set of diverse modes - those allow to take part in multiplayer skirmishes, as well as to cooperate with one's team during a full-spectrum conflict against the AI.

As you play, you get to explore the vast world, tale part in various missions, and fight opponents with a wide arsenal of weapons characteristic for the period.
