My Horse and Me 2
My Horse and Me 2

Sports 31 October 2008

A sequel to the sports-simulation game that focuses on horses and horsemanship. This time around, we assume the role of a teenager who dreams of a professional jockey career. In order to accomplish her goal, she arrives at the farm of her uncle’s, a racehorse breeder, but it quickly turns out that the facility goes through some financial difficulties and its personnel is not exactly qualified. The only way to save the stable from bankruptcy is to win a prestigious competition in Kentucky. My Horse and Me 2, much like its predecessor, focuses primarily on realism, offering an exclusive license of the FEI, a global equestrian sports organization. In the title, we take part in a number of varied mini-games that improve our horse’s skills. We also have to take care of the animal and even beautify it in order to please the demanding jury. One of the title’s advantages is the emphasis on creating a specific bond between the rider and his mount.

Another installment in a series of popular sports games devoted to ice hockey and developed by EA Sports since the middle 90s. In terms of the mechanics, NHL 17 does not bring any significant changes to what the players have experienced before. However, the game brings several novelties and upgrades as usual. The creators mainly enhanced the AI of the goalkeepers, improved the physics affecting the hockey players during close encounters, modified the systems of passes and spins, as well as added several new celebrations. For the first time in the series, the player can take part in world competitions with national teams competing for the victory (International Tournament Mode). The list of gameplay variants available is complemented by modes the fans are already familiar with, such as Draft Champions or Franchise Mode - the latter features an extensive "Be a GM" component. Interestingly, NHL 17 features Arena Creator as well, which allows us to create the ice hockey rink of our dreams.

A sandbox extreme winter sports simulation game by Ubisoft, set in faithfully recreated regions of the Alps and Alaska, divided into several open-world sectors. There you can go skiing or snowboarding, or even take to the skies with a paraglider or a wingsuit. The gameplay is purely arcade-like, so you need to both ride fast and execute spectacular tricks. During the game you can try to beat a wide range of challenges such as time trials or stunts. Steep also places emphasis on the social aspect, thanks to which you can create your own challenges and make them available to other players. The system is complemented by online rankings, although you can forego the rivalry and simply enjoy the wintry landscapes.

Another edition of a popular wrestling simulator, developed annually since the release of 2002's WWE Raw. After the liquidation of THQ, the original publisher of the game, Take Two, became the official owner of the franchise. The new edition was created as a result of cooperation between Yuke's (the creators of the previous editions) and the Visual Concepts studio, the developer of the NBA 2K series. WWE 2K15 combines the best mechanics developed over the years with next-gen visuals, offering completely new game modes. The controls were modified, so that they are more intuitive, and the game features even more moves for the player to perform. However, the largest change brought by this edition lies in the visual aspect. Thanks to the new motion-capture technology, more detailed character models, improved graphics, animations, lighting effects, and substantially richer commentary, the new edition highlights the series successful debut on the 8th generation of consoles.

Tour de France 2016

Sports 16 June 2016

Another installment in a series of sports games regarding one of the most important cycling events in the world. It was developed by the Cyanide studio. Similar to the previous installments, the game was released in two different versions - one for PCs and the other for consoles. Pro Cycling Manager 2016 for PC is a typical manager game, which does not give direct control over bikers to the player. Rather, the player's task here is to lead their team to success through managing different aspects of running a cycling team. On the other hand, Tour de France 2016 for consoles is a typical arcade game that casts the player in the role of a single cyclist. Applying different tactics on the road, the player competes against others in order to win the yellow shirt of the leader. As usual, this installment uses all the necessary licenses - the player observes virtual representations of real cyclists and their teams, as well as faithfully recreated tracks. Apart from the titular Tour de France, the game offers a variety of other popular cycling events.

Sports 31 December 2011

The fourth installment in a series of ski jumping simulators that gained approval around the world thanks to combining simplicity with loads of pure gameplay. The game was created by a Finnish programmer Jussi Koskela and expands the concepts of the previous iterations, introducing several significant novelties at the same time. Deluxe Ski Jump 4 offers a wide set of game modes - single competitions and entire seasons, apart from the multiplayer rivalry. Participating in a session involves the necessity to go through qualifications. Many factors influence one's performance here, including the wind (its force and direction change) and dynamic weather conditions (rain, snow, fog). Both the in-game physics and character animations were substantially improved, apart from the game's visuals. Sports 11 October 2016

A mobile version of the most popular football game series, developed by EA Mobile. Compared to the original, the gameplay was adapted to the specifics of mobile devices, which called for some simplification. It's dynamic and arcade-like, although it also features a range of options, which allow you to manage your team and choose the right strategy. The game also features a special game mode called Attack Mode, in which you participate in a few-minutes-long matches and focus on attacking the opponent's goal. Additionally, FIFA mobile includes minigames, referencing the real-life current football events. You can start your own league, compete in online rankings with other teams, and build your team according to the Ultimate Team mode. Sports 27 October 2015

Another installment in the launched in 2000 WWF Smackdown! game series devoted to wrestling, which is popular in some English-speaking countries. Once more, the game was developed by the Yuke's studio, working under the aegis of 2K Games, which have been responsible for the series since 2012. However, unlike last year's installment, WWE 2K16 appeared only on consoles. Title features the widest, so far, range of more than 120 characters, among whom there are both present (male and female) wrestling celebrities as well as legends of the sport. Game traditionally provides a large set of updates and fixes. Rebuilt controls, new aiming system that enables us to aim our strikes at any part of opponent's body, and new kinds of props which we can use during combat, are the most notable ones. In addition to the usual MyCareer mode, in which we create our own character and lead him through subsequent stepping stones, the game features a come back of the 2K Showcase mode, in which we recreate the most iconic battles in the history of WWE.
