Video Games Encyclopedia by Gamepressure.com

A list of Released video games for PC sorted by release date.

PC (Personal computer) - one of the most popular home platforms and the only one which doesn’t offer playing video games as its main purpose. PC was born in the 1970s, but it is impossible to give an exact moment of its birth or even a name of its creator. However, IBM is the one who gave computers their present shape, using, at the beginning of the 1980s, an idea of open architecture – which is today one of the most important differences between computers and consoles.

The foundations of PC as a gaming platform are currently systems of digital distribution of video games (Steam, Origin, Uplay) and MMO games that mostly work in f2p (free-to-play) model.

Zero Escape: The Nonary Games (PC)
Zero Escape: The Nonary Games (PC)

Adventure 24 March 2017

A compilation of remastered editions of two adventure games developed by Spike Chunsoft - a Japanese studio. The Nonary Games includes 2009's 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward - a game which came out three years later. Since the plots of the two games are strongly connected, it is recommended to play through them in chronological order. Both games offer a gameplay formula based on two branches - the story-based sequences typical for visual novel as a genre, and the adventure-like sections played from first-person view. During the sequences of the first kind, the player follows the developments in the story and makes different choices from time to time; the other segment of gameplay requires the player to solve puzzles. Compared to their original releases, the games contained within this compilation come with improved visuals. Additionally, 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors was enriched with professional voice acting (both in English and Japanese).

Toukiden 2 (PC)
Toukiden 2 (PC)

Action 24 March 2017

A sequel to the 2013 action game Toukiden: The Age of Demons, created by Japanese studio Omega Force (known for e.g. One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 and Dynasty Warriors). Unlike its predecessor, which was only available for portable devices, Toukiden 2 was also released for PlayStation 3 and 4 home consoles. The game's mechanics are similar to those of the first installment, so it's still a hack and slash with RPG elements. The setting is again the fantasy world ravaged by armies of demons, and you play as a seasoned warrior, who's dedicated to defeat them. The combat system is based on spectacular combo attacks and requires some agility. When facing boss enemies, you need to use a proper strategy and take advantage of your opponent's weaknesses. Toukiden 2 features an open world, where you can find NPCs, side quests, and various service providers. Apart from the singleplayer campaign, the game also has an online multiplayer mode.

Vikings: Wolves of Midgard (PC)

RPG 24 March 2017

A hack-and-slash role-playing game set in a world inspired by Norse myths, developed by Games Farm and Kalypso Media. The protagonist is Ulfung, a Viking clan chieftain, whose village is completely destroyed, while he becomes the leader of the surviving warriors in their quest to try to save Midgard from Ragnarok. Mechanics-wise, the game is clearly inspired by the popular Diablo series. At the start, you choose your warrior's gender and class, and then explore a range of locations and eliminate hordes of enemies. Apart from the more mundane weapons such as war hammers, axes, swords and bows, you can also use special items and amulets, which affect your character's abilities. Vikings: Wolves of Midgard features an interesting character development system, the option of rebuilding your village step by step, and an apocalyptic winter you have to seek shelter from, e.g. by looking for any heat sources.

The game features 9 trains falling into 3 categories - steam, electric and diesel. The player maintains the engines using different parts, and one will find over a thousand of them here. The action takes place in a three-dimensional environment and the visuals are decent. The game stands out both with its carefully-designed trains and the environment filled with detail.

Rock Band VR (PC)
Rock Band VR (PC)

Party 23 March 2017

A spin-off of a popular music game series developed over the years by Harmonix Music Systems. The largest novelty which distinguishes Rock Band VR from the main installments is obviously the support of Virtual Reality goggles. Subsequent performances are viewed here from the first-person perspective. Apart from that, however, the Rock Band gameplay formula remains unchanged. Once again, the player assumes the roles of individual rock band members in order to play the part of a drummer, guitarist or a singer, trying to recreate a given song to the best of their ability through pressing adequate buttons at the right time and linking them into combinations by doing so. The better the quality of one's performance, the larger the score. What is also worth noticing, is that members of a power metal band DragonForce took part in both the game's production process and its commercial campaign.

Playerunknown's Battlegrounds (PC)
Playerunknown's Battlegrounds (PC)

Action 2018

Online shooter with elements of survival, which focuses on Battle Royale type of competition (the last man standing wins). Playerunkown’s Battlegrounds is a game by the developers of TERA MMO and the creator of Battle Royale mods for Arma II and Arma III. The rules of the game are simple: a large number of players are closed together in a big location, each with only one mission – to eliminate everyone else. A game ends when there is only one player left alive. Participants start off completely unarmed, so the first phase is basically a race for the best weapons. Players can make use of various kinds of traps, and the game offers much freedom when it comes to choosing the methods of eliminating enemies. An extra help for that comes from a simple crafting system, which lets you construct items from gathered resources. Playerunkown’s Battlegrounds’ fast-paced gameplay is further increased by the fact that the map is gradually getting smaller, making confrontations between players more frequent.

Mass Effect: Andromeda (PC)

RPG 21 March 2017

The fourth part of the hugely popular action RPG game series in a space-opera setting. BioWare Montreal, the development studio that helped create the two previous installments took the reins of Mass Effect: Andromeda's development. The game's story is not associated with the trilogy about Commander Shepard's fight against the Reapers, offering instead a completely separate plot featuring new characters and locations. Using the proven pattern, the creators of Mass Effect: Andromeda put the focus on a spectacular TPP action experience and moral choices that have a direct impact on the course of events. The technical side of the game is based on the third-generation Frostbite engine, providing high-quality audiovisuals.

Nier: Automata (PC)

Action 17 March 2017

Third-person perspective action game with RPG features and a sequel to the warmly-received production created by Cavia in 2010. The second installment was created by a different developer – Platinum Games known for the Bayonetta series. Despite that, Tarou Yokou, the creator of the first game, retained his position as the director of the project. The game takes place in distant future in which Earth was destroyed due to war against deadly machines. Humans, having found a safe haven on the Moon, created the limited YoRHa series of sapient androids to fight on their behalf. The YoRHa combined forces with androids of older generation and together they face the rebel machines. Two out of three protagonists of NieR Automata are completely new characters, but during the game player will also encounter characters from the first installment of the series as both stories are connected. Gameplay mechanics of the game are similar to ones in its predecessor and they offer an attractive combination of hack-and-slash, magic and RPG.

Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul (PC)
Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul (PC)

Simulation 16 March 2017

An advanced railway simulator developed by Dovetail Games, a developer known from popular Train Simulator series. Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul follows the same vein, yet is treated as a separate project based on new technology. Unfortunately, this means that the title is not compatible with numerous add-ons released for Train Simulator series. As always, the gameplay involves controlling various railway engines and traversing numerous railways found all around the world. Moreover, the players can create their own tracks thanks to included editor. The game contains both single and multiplayer modes. Interestingly enough, the game is powered by Unreal Engine 4, an engine used in titles such as Final Fantasy VII Remake, Days Gone, or Gears of War 4. As a result, the new incarnation of the railway series received multiple fixes, as well as improved graphics and physics.

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil Remastered (PC)
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil Remastered (PC)

Action 16 March 2017

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil Remastered is a remaster of the cult FPP shooter, developed by Night Dive. Many changes were made in the game: visuals, interface, gameplay mechanics, etc. The game now runs on Kex Engine 3.4, the enemies' A.I. was improved (now they can attack in groups and run away if required) and so was the character's movement (i.e. the hero can now climb onto some of the enviornmental elements). Quicksave option was also implemented, and the possibility to teleport back to the portal we have already discovered. The core of the game in Turok 2: Seeds of Evil Remastered remains the same. This is still a fine FPS where we play as Joshua Fireseed, the dinosaur hunter, and our goal is to defeat the Primagen. The game offers a single player campaign and a competitive multiplayer.

100ft Robot Golf (PC)
100ft Robot Golf (PC)

Sports 16 March 2017

An unconventional, arcade sports game created by No Goblin, specifically for PlayStation VR. The game presents an original variation on the classic golf, casting the player in the role of a pilot controlling a powerful robot. The robot's main goal is to place the ball in a hole that is located far away. The entire action takes place on bizarre maps, such as a city center, the surface of the Moon or mountain peaks. Because the robots are gigantic, particular environmental objects are destructible, which allows for numerous crazy actions. The player can also hit the ball with a club of another robot standing in the "golf course" as well. Apart from the single-player campaign, the creators also included a multiplayer component. The players can compete against one another either online or in the split-screen mode.

The in-game environment is generated procedurally and undergoes constant transformations. The player gains access to new areas through solving puzzles. On the other hand, artifacts found along the way allow the protagonist to acquire different skills, such as transformation into animals. Future Unfolding offers incredibly colorful visuals and the experience is accompanied by ambient music composed specifically for the game.
