Farming Simulator 17 (PS4)
Simulation 25 October 2016
Farming Simulator 17 is another installment in the series of simulators of farm. This time, the game was published by Focus Home Interactive, but the development was still carried out by GIANTS Software, known from the previous parts of this series. The mechanics remain unchanged - the players become farmers, who need to take good care of their establishment. During the game, much attention has to be paid to the economic side of the management - the right equipment needs to be purchased, used for sawing, gathering crops, and moving the goods around. Traditionally, the player can control many different machines, all with official licenses from real manufacturers, and personally take care of various tasks in the field. The new installment obviously introduces some changes and novelties. Contrary to previous games, Farming Simulator 17 was released on PC, XONE and PS4 simultaneously.
Kerbal Space Program (PS4)
Simulation 12 July 2016
This is the debut from the independent developer Squad. The game is an unusual simulator requiring the player to develop their own space program from scratch. Kerbal Space Program combines features of many genres, but the most important part here is an extensive ship editor, which allows the player to design and build their own, unique spacecraft. The ship is then supposed to fly and land safely on a moon of the Kerbin planet. The spaceship is built from various elements - each of them affects it in flight and serves a specific purpose. Thanks to a realistic flight model, the player is capable of observing the effects of their work and monitoring a set of parameters describing the ship. Apart from the basic, sandbox mode, the game offers a set of story missions requiring the player to recruit a team, conduct research, build bases and visit dozens of planets.
War Thunder (PS4)
Simulation 29 November 2013
A free-to-play MMO flight simulator. It was developed by Gajin Entertainment, a Russian studio which previously created such titles as Wings of Prey, Birds of Steel, and Apache: Air Assault. The players assume the role of fighter pilots and can pilot hundreds of carefully recreated World War II aircrafts. The developers made sure that battlefield reality is faithfully reflected not only in the air, but also on the land (artillery, infantry) and at sea (navy). Progress allows us to upgrade our planes, buy new kinds of weapons as well as learn new piloting skills. War Thunder stands out from its competitors thanks to its high-quality visuals and realistic flight physics.
World of Tanks (PS4)
Simulation 19 January 2016
A massively popular MMO game, created and administered by Russian developer Wargaming.net. World of Tanks lets players control tanks and take part in exciting battles against living opponents. The game offers over 150 carefully recreated models of tanks and other armored vehicles (including self-propelled guns and tank destroyers) used in armies of several countries since the 1930’s till the Korean War (1950-1953). The gameplay in World of Tanks combines elements of simulation, action shooter, strategy, and social features that let players join clans and communicate with others. The game is based on a free-to-play distribution model with microtransactions.
Elite: Dangerous (PS4)
The fourth installment in the Elite series. The game is a space simulator created again by David Braben and the Frontier studio. Elite: Dangerous is set in the far future; after humanity had colonized countless star systems, the Universe is dominated by three superpowers: the Empire, the Federation, and the Alliance. Brave pilots seek easy money working beyond the territories controlled by these entities. The open-world game structure offers the players large amounts of freedom when it comes to exploration, trading or completing military assignments. Instead of the classic division into the solo and multiplayer modes, the creators of Elite: Dangerous allow the player to join their friends or return to single-player experience at any time.
Farming Simulator 15 (PS4)
Simulation 19 May 2015
The sixth major installment in the popular farming simulation game series. The franchise makes a comeback to key gaming platforms after a year off, when only smartphone and portable editions were released. The developer, GIANTS Software, prepared another portion of innovations to enhance gameplay. The game lets you play in a new environment (Scandinavian), characterized by different landscape, weather conditions, and vast forests. This time players can cut down trees using specially designed, licensed machines. There is also a car wash, allowing you to keep your vehicles clean. Overall, the gameplay mechanics remained unchanged; as usual, your task is to manage a farm and expand it using the money earned from breeding animals and cultivating land. The sixth installment introduced the series to the eight generation consoles, bringing about significant visual improvements.
EVEREST VR (PS4)
A simulation game designed for virtual reality sets, taking us to Himalayas where we conquer the summit of the highest mountain in the world. Production was developed by Icelandic Sólfar Studios collaborating with RVX team, responsible for special effects in the Baltasar Kormáruk movie, Everest. Project was supported financially by many Scandinavian institutions. EVEREST VR lets us experience the beauty of the journey while traveling through five iconic scenes: preparing our expedition at the basecamp, traversing the dangerous Khumbu Icefalls, spending the night in a transition camp, ascending the nearly vertical Hilary Step to finally reach the summit of Everest. Producers took special care to achieve a proper balance between pure simulation and enjoyable experience, making it attractive for a large group of recipients. Visuals were created by using dual imaging photogrammetry and the stunning photos taken while directing the Everest movie.
Job Simulator (PS4)
Simulation 13 October 2016
Developed by Owlchemy Labs, a humorous simulation game designed with Augmented Reality in mind. This title can be classified as a joke sim, similar to Surgeon Simulator, I Am Bread, or Probably Archery. The game is set in the year 2050, when most humans’ tasks were handed down to specialized machines. In order to remind humanity that their ancestors used to work like this, a special simulation program was created to teach people of the future what true work used to mean. The game has no specific goals. As you play you pursue certain occupations, such as chef, shopkeeper, or office worker, allowing you to manipulate the objects around you. However, using them in the proper, intended way is not so easy, as the over the top physics make even the simplest actions challenging and hilarious at the same.
The Escapists (PS4)
Simulation 26 May 2015
A prisoner simulator that combines features of many genres. It was developed by Mouldy Toof in cooperation with Team 17 Software. The player assumes the role of a prisoner who leads a “normal” life in one of several available penitentiary facilities. The main objective of the game is to plan a way of escaping from the prison. In addition to participating in a series of daily activities like various works, workouts, meals, walks and interactions with other prisoners, the player is also gathering seemingly useless items, looking for allies and observing his surroundings in order to find weak points of security systems. The final phase is to use the previously prepared plan and escape. The Escapist offers great freedom of acting and many ways of escaping depending on prison style (among which there is for example a military prison camp). The game offers retro pixel-art two-dimensional graphics presented from a top-down perspective.
Forestry 2017: The Simulation (PS4)
The next installment in a simulation games series previously known as Woodcutter Simulator. The game is a result of cooperation between the German UIG Entertainment company and a renowned game publisher Namco Bandai. This is the first part of the series that was designed for both PC and console players. Professional Lumberjack 2016 allows you to become a manager of a wood cutting company. Gameplay consists of two layers: simulation and economic. The former offers a wide selection of machines for cutting, processing, and transportation of wood. The economic layer in Professional Lumberjack 2016 focuses around accepting and completing jobs, as well as subsequent investments in the development of your company and new machines, which translates to better efficiency and higher pace of work.
Professional Farmer 2017 (PS4)
Simulation 27 May 2016
Another installment in the popular farming simulator series, also known as Agrar Simulator. The general gameplay mechanics remain the same, while the game is still divided into simulation and economic parts. In the former, we personally engage in various farming activities, such as field reclamation, animal breeding, crop production, planting trees, and harvesting, using a wide variety of agricultural machines. The money we earn is invested into development of our farm, namely: expanding its infrastructure, hiring employees, and purchasing additional equipment. The realistically modeled calendar of farming work as well as occasionally occurring random problems and obstacles play important roles in the game. In addition, the visuals were enhanced, especially since Professional Farmer 2016 is the first installment of the series to be released on consoles.
Star Trek: Bridge Crew (PS4)
Simulation May 2017
A spaceflight simulator game developed mainly for virtual reality headsets by Ubisoft Red Storm, best known for many action games based on Tom Clancy's works. Star Trek: Bridge Crew is set in the cinematic universe based on the popular science-fiction TV series. During the game, you explore a previously unknown region of the galaxy, known as the Trench, in search for a new home for the Vulcan race. The gameplay was designed with a co-op mode for four players in mind, and each player becomes a different crew member of the ship. The positions to choose from are: Captain, Helmsman, Engineer, and Tactical Officer. Each of them has unique duties, which you perform by using the ship's equipment in the virtual world. Star Trek: Bridge Crew features attractive 3D visuals, stylized to resemble the game's movie predecessor.
The Escapists 2 (PS4)
A sequel to the 2015 game by Mouldy Toof which was a unique arcade 2D platformer with elements of logic and RPG productions. In The Escapist 2, the players assume the role of inmates locked up in heavily-guarded prisons, and their task is to work out the security system and to escape. To do so, we have to look for allies and items that can be crafted into useful tools while pretending that we tend to our usual prison routines. Compared to the original, the game features a myriad of enhancements such as new ways of spending spare time, a modified combat system, a possibility of creating previously unavailable items, and new ways of escaping. One of the biggest novelties is the introduction of a drop in/drop out multiplayer mode in which up to four players can play on a split screen or over the Internet.
EVE: Valkyrie (PS4)
Simulation 13 October 2016
Multiplayer-focused space simulator set in a fictional universe created by Crowd Control Productions (CCP Games) for their MMO title, EVE Online. This game is set in the distant future, long after humans living in the New Eden solar system get separated from the rest of the universe because of the collapse of a wormhole leading back to the Milky Way. Isolated from their kinsmen, in time they split up into five opposing factions competing for resources and space for expansion. The game puts you in the cockpit of one of the fighters known from EVE Online and participate in space skirmishes. The gameplay was designed to reward skill of individual players, not the statistics of their characters. What is more, EVE: Valkyrie supports virtual reality headsets for an even more immersive experience.
Apollo 11 VR (PS4)
A game that recreates the first human spaceflight to the Moon using virtual reality. Apollo 11 VR shows the events preceding the historic journey, such as: launch of the Apollo 11 spaceship using a Saturn V rocket, the flight to the Earth’s natural satellite, or the landing and the first walk on its surface. The title is described as a new kind of documentary film, featuring only uncomplicated mechanics that fit more to virtual reality than a fully-fledged video game. The events are seen from a first-person perspective, and the players have the full freedom to look around their surroundings. The camera switches to TPP mode only during combat. During the takeoff and landing, we can operate on-board equipment (however, the procedures has been simplified). While on the Moon, we can take a walk, and conduct simple research. Apollo 11 VR takes place in a detailed 3D environment, with a climatic soundtrack and authentic conversations accompanying the gameplay.
Birthdays the Beginning (PS4)
Simulation 09 May 2017
An original open-world game combining elements typical for titles such as Spore or Minecraft. The game was created by Arc System Works, and the TOYBOX Inc. studio led by Yasuhiro Wada - the father of the Harvest Moon series. Birthdays the Beginning casts the player in the role of a creator of worlds, whose goal is to create a planet, along with a breathing ecosystem rich in life. Once a universe has been generated, the player decides about topography-related aspects through raising mountains and creating valleys where water, the source of life, can gather. What's more, the player has to provide things such as adequate temperatures. At the beginning, the player uses simple, unicellular organisms that get to inhabit the game world. Later on, the player leads them through subsequent stages of evolution - from different plants and dinosaurs, through creatures resembling present-day animals, and ultimately to reach humanoid beings. Birthdays: The Beginning offers colorful, three-dimensional visuals accompanied by a light atmosphere.
How We Soar (PS4)
Simulation September 2017
Developed for VR devices, an exploration game by British Penny Black - a studio set up by former employees of Crytek and Free Radical Design. The action of How We Soar takes us to a fantasy universe projected in a writer’s mind. In the game we try to bring back order to this world and put the writer’s shattered memories back together while flying on a mythical bird – Phoenix. Gameplay predominantly concentrates on exploration in which interaction with the world plays an important role. The world is composed of paper models made of pages from the writer’s book. At the beginning, the world appears to have been shattered to pieces, but once you explore more and delve into other memories of the writer, you gradually restore peace by adding colors, revealing hidden secrets, and remodeling disfigured shapes into distinguishable objects.
I Am Bread (PS4)
Simulation 25 August 2015
Another one of a bunch of absurd simulators, which, contrary to any logical reasoning, keep gaining crowds of fans. The hero of this game, developed by an independent team at Bossa Studios, is a slice of bread, and the player’s job is to take it all the way into a toaster. Gameplay mechanics in I Am Bread are pretty complex, biggest difficulty being controlling all four corners of the toast separately. With these mechanics the “hero” can perform simple moves on any flat surface. The game is played in different rooms, and in order to get the toast to its ultimate destination you can make use of various types of house equipment, e.g. a fan, which makes an excellent catapult. While playing you must also supervise two essential statistics of the bread: its edibility and deliciousness. Too much dirt can make the toast completely inedible.
Classroom Aquatic (PS4)
Another unusual simulation game and the debut production by indie studio Sunken Places, developed for VR headgear. In Classroom Aquatic you play as a diver, who is also an exchange student in an underwater dolphin school. As everybody knows, dolphins are highly intelligent, so tests are not much of a problem for them. Not so for you, so in order not to make a foll of yourself, you have to sneakily glance at you classmates' tests and copy the right answers. You also have to be careful not to get noticed by either the teacher or the other students, who may expose you. The game utilizes a first-person perspective and features humorous cartoonish visuals.
Organ Trail: Complete Edition (PS4)
Simulation 14 July 2016
A complete edition of an old school simulation game with RPG features. The title takes place in a world filled with zombies and the player's task is to survive. The game is a pastiche of the classic title The Oregon Trail which told the story of a group of settlers colonizing America. During the game, the player controls a group of survivors who travel through the USA in an old car. In order to survive, they must gather food and other useful items like medications and fuel. They must also regularly repair their vehicle. The game also contains fights with undead bosses. In addition to the basic game, Organ Trail: Complete Edition also contains Endless and Final Cut DLCs which expand the game with new features like new enemies, bosses and a cooperation mode. The game features old school, pixel graphics and takes the form of an education show that is teaching young kids how to survive during a zombie apocalypse.
Farming Simulator 15: Gold (PS4)
Simulation 29 October 2015
A complete edition of 2014's Farming Simulator 15, featuring the Official Expansion DLC and developed by GIANTS Software. As usual, the player's main tasks here are to sow fields, breed animals and buy gradually better equipment for money earned from selling crops and other goods. The game offers three different environments with different climatic conditions: one is a Central European location, the second was inspired by Scandinavian landscapes, and the last resembles Eastern Europe (this one was introduced in the Official Expansion DLC). What is new in Farming Simulator 15, is an opportunity to manage forests - adequate equipment was added for wood cutting, processing, and transportation. Also, the game brings new machines from real-life companies, such as New Holland, Ponsse, Zetor, Tatra, Rostselmash or Farmtech. Farming Simulator 15: Gold offers both a solo experience and a multiplayer component for up to 16 players connected either via the Internet or LAN.
