iOS Video Games

iOS is the name for the operating system which Apple is using in its own smartphones and tablets (iPhones and iPads) since 2007. iOS is a more popular platform among the mobile developers than Android, despite the fact that the latter is used in a greater number of mobile devices. Apple’s success is a result of bigger revenues for developers creating iOS games and greater performance of iPhones and iPads, among other things.

Assassin's Creed Rebellion (iOS)

Strategy December 2017

Strategy game with RPG elements, in which you manage a fortress of the eponymous Assassin Brotherhood and lead a self-composed team of assassins. The title was developed by Canadian team Behavior Interactive Studio. Assassin’s Creed Rebellion is set in the 15th-century Spain, where you confront the Inquisition. The Brotherhood is made up of over forty characters, featuring both famous characters from Assassin’s Creed video games and the movie as well as twenty completely new individuals. As you advance to new progression levels, you are able to expand the fortress with new rooms and purchase equipment. On the other hand, while performing specific tasks (which require heroes with specific abilities), you gain DNA fragments (unlocking more Assassins), raw materials (for improving existing units), and crafting materials (needed to create better equipment). Against a background of other Assassin's Creed games, Rebellion is distinguished by its graphics design, based on Chibi stylistics.

Antihero (iOS)

Strategy December 2017

A turn-based strategy set in the Victorian age, created by an independent developer, Tim Conkling. It takes us to a somewhat grotesque version of a British town, based on Charles Dickens’ descriptions, with us playing as a leader of the local thieves’ guild, whose task is to develop his organization and fill its vaults with gold. To achieve this, we must recruit new members to our gang, train them and send on missions like stick-ups, mugging, and assassinations. Infiltrating banks, factories, and other influential institutions is crucial to our success, in addition to building useful structures and researching new technologies – all of this without going broke of course. Antihero offers a huge freedom at expanding our criminal empire. Depending on our preferences, we can concentrate on more discreet activities or turn our organization into a full-fledged assassin’s guild.

Torchlight: The Legend Continues (iOS)

RPG TBA

Developed by Fedeen Games, Torchlight Mobile is a spin-off to a popular hack-and-slash game series. The title was developed from scratch with mobile devices in mind, and thus it is not a simple conversion of any of the previous installments. Torchlight Mobile invites you into a classic fantasy universe, as it stands on the brink of destruction at the hands of servants of darkness. Obviously, the task of defeating the evil forces and saving the world falls down on the player. You can pick any of the four playable character classes: Berserker, Engineer, Outlander, and Embermage, each one representing a completely different profession and requiring different play style. In a typical action RPG manner, the gameplay boils down to fighting hordes of monsters, developing your character’s skills, and upgradeing their equipment, e.g. by combining several weaker items into one more powerful. Torchlight Mobile features slightly cartoonish artworks, characteristic of the core games in the series.

Beholder is an indie adventure game, inspired by the works of George Orwell, Aldous Huxley, and Ray Bradbury. The game takes place in a dystopian world, where the lives of its citizens are fully controlled by the regime, and privacy and freedom of speech are relics of the past. The players take on the role of the manager of an apartment complex. His job is to - under the guise of care - surveil and report any signs of opposition against the government. The game's plot is non-linear - the ending, and the fate of many characters, depend on the player's choices. In Beholder, the players must observe and eavesdrop on the apartment complex's residents, and - when they are gone - search their apartments. When the investigation is complete, a proper report must be submitted, alongside collected evidence. Then, the players can see the consequences of their actions, like a suspect being arrested. Beholder features gloomy 2D graphics which, together with the music, fit in quite well with the game's grim vibe.
