Europa Universalis III: The Divine Wind

Strategy 14 December 2010

The fourth major DLC to the strategy game Europa Universalis III developed by Paradox and published in 2007. The expansion named Divine Wind stays in the same time period as the base-version of the game and takes place between 1453-1789. The title concentrates particularly on the Far East, which influences and slightly changes the gameplay. Moreover, set on the Asian coast of Pacific, the game features dozens of new villages that you can raid. Among a whole range of improvements, there are new diplomatic options, a new set of buildings, and more. Multiplayer is also expanded – now it allows up to 32 users to play at the same time. The production features more details and updated graphics. The extension requires both, the base-version of the game and the previous DLCs.

Europa Universalis III: Heir to the Throne
Europa Universalis III: Heir to the Throne

Strategy 15 December 2009

The third official expansion for the popular strategy game Europa Universalis III which was released in 2007. The expansion called Heir to the Throne adds many innovations to the base game, trying to make it even more historically correct and show the problems with which the rulers had to deal with. Most of all, declaring a war is now much more important and each conflict has its beginning and specific objectives (casus belli). Family relations between the rulers now have impact on diplomatic relations of various nations and each monarch must constantly worry about legitimization of the leadership given to him by the folk. Other novelties include increased role of Pope and Vatican, technology development impacting effectiveness of advisors, new diplomatic options for republican countries and increased pirate activity, which impacts the safety on seas and oceans.

Europa Universalis III: In Nomine
Europa Universalis III: In Nomine

Strategy 28 May 2008

Another DLC requiring the base version of the third part of Europa Universalis and its previous expansion called Napoleon’s Ambition. In Nomine takes you back to the year 1399 when Henry IV takes the English throne. The expanded historical time frame enabled the developers to introduce a set of important historical events, like the Mongol invasion of Turkey, the Hundred Years’ War, or the Decline of the Byzantine Empire. Apart from international conflicts, you have to deal with your country’s internal problems, like the unification of the Great Britain and religious conflicts (the Reformation and the Counter-Reformation). The key new elements in mechanics concern expanding the diplomatic aspects and introducing a new mission system that makes the gameplay less linear.

Strategy 22 August 2007

The first major expansion to Europa Universalis III by Paradox Interactive. The DLC called Napoleon’s Ambition is targeted at the players who did not like the fact that the base game presented a distorted version of historical facts. As the names suggests, the game offers an expanded historical time frame – the beginning of 19th century in which you can take part in the French Revolution and react to Napoleon’s territorial claims (or lead his expansion yourself). Along with the new period, the game features advices from counselors corresponding to the historical realities and the new, updated political map of the world, introducing new national ideas and military units. Compared to the base game, the user’s interface is improved and there are new options of influencing the way your country develops, such as more detailed trade management.
