Ryse: Son of Rome

A dynamic TPP action game developed by Crytek. Its story is present mainly in the form of flashbacks and takes us to ancient Rome, right before its fall. The main hero – centurion Marius Titus – wants to take revenge on barbarians who murdered his family. Ryse: Son of Rome has been developed with Kinect in mind from the very start, allowing players to perform various combinations of attacks through body movement. There is also option of giving out simple voice commands to our soldier. The game stands out with high-quality visuals powered by the fourth generation of CryEngine.

Plot and Mechanics

During the game you take on the role of Marius Titus, a Roman centurion, who is seeking revenge for the death of his loved ones. In addition to cutting his way through hordes of enemies, he also has to command his subordinates. The combat mainly boils down to pressing button combinations, resulting in Titus performing spectacular combos.

The game uses Kinect controller, so the units can be commanded by voice. You can give them such orders like throw a pilum, shoot a bow, or block an enemy attack. There can be up to one hundred characters on the screen at the same time, each controlled by an individual AI.

Game modes

Ryse: Son of Rome also offers a cooperative multiplayer mode. You can fight along your friends in the Roman Colosseum as gladiators who focus on defeating waves of enemies.

Misc.

The game also makes use of functionality of SmartGlass, including: launching the game directly into the campaign mode, possibility to share your game experiences directly through the service, tips on achievements and aids on how to beat consecutive levels, as well as managing your equipement, character and upgrades directly from SmartGlass.

Ryse: Son of Rome for PC / Windows is a dynamic action game with story set in the ancient Rome. The developer of the game is a German company Crytek, known for the first-person shooter series Crysis. It is conversion of console version, released in November 2013 as launch title for Xbox One. First information about this game appeared in 2011. According to Cryteks plans from that time, Ryse was meant to be released on Xbox 360 and support only Kinect as a controller.

We can give orders to our men (like throwing a pilum, shooting a bow, blocking enemy attacks etc.). There can be up to 100 characters on the screen at once, each with their own, individual AI.

Misc.

The PC version of the game includes all released DLC and the content which was available only in the Limited Edition of Xbox One version. Therefore Ryse on PC has more weapons, skins for characters, a dozen or so maps for single- and multiplayers modes and survival mode. However, the most interesting innovations we can see in the graphics. The game uses CryEngine 3 and can be a hard test even to the most powerful computers. It offers support for 4K resolution and advanced effects which could not be possible on Xbox One.
