Released in 1991, Duke Nukem turned out to be a real success and for many months did not go off the charts. Developers from Apogee Software decided to follow the blow and prepare a sequel with better graphics and an even greater dose of typical Princely humour.

The action of the game starts with the kidnapping of Duke. The title character, pressed by giving an interview for television about his bestselling book "Why am I so great", does not notice a foreign ship in time. The newcomers from the Cosmos have a cunning plan. They want to suck out of the Prince's brain all the information useful for conquering the Earth. Of course, Duke has no intention of becoming a thoughtless zombie, not to let an invasion....

Duke Nukem II is a typical side-scroll platformer. Players direct the actions of the main character, who crosses hundreds of corridors, overcoming various obstacles and wreaking havoc among hostile aliens. The creators of the game have prepared 32 different levels of difficulty and appearance. They have been grouped into four chapters, each of which introduces new elements of the plot. Tom Hall is responsible for the script of Duke Nukem II, who previously wrote scripts for the id Software studio.

Compared to the original sequel has a number of new elements and solutions to facilitate gameplay, including radar for better orientation on the boards and the option to save the game. The arsenal of available weapons has also been expanded, and in some places Duke can even use vehicles. The Prince's opponents are not only strangers, but also droids or mutants, and in the final battles the bosses of the boards stand up to fight.

At the moment of its premiere, Duke Nukem II was distinguished by its elaborate graphic design, which included the parallax effect. The title character was also given a characteristic, muscular image, which over time was to become a hallmark of the series.
