Divinity: Dragon Commander is a unique mix of RTS, turn-based strategy and action game, created by Larian studio. So far the developers have been mainly associated with role-playing games (Divinity series), but also have some experience with real-time strategies, as they created an RTS named The L.E.D. Wars.

Divinity: Dragon Commander is set in the universe created by the studio for the Divinity series, and it tells about the events that took place long before those presented in Divinity II. The player takes on the role of a young dragon knight, a powerful warrior capable of transforming himself into a dragon, who is fighting to save Rivellon after his father and king, is murdered. The world that you get to know in the game, is an unconventional merge of a well-known fantasy style with elements of advanced technology. The developers drew inspiration from steampunk and dieselpunk stylistics.

The gameplay consists of three main elements. The first one allows you to take on the role of a chief commander, who resides in one of the flying fortresses of the Empire. It is here where you can seek for opinion of your advisers and take decisions of various political weight that affect how the entire campaign unfolds.

The second part of the game is a strategy map that serves the same role as its counterpart in the Total War series or in Risk board game. Thanks to the map, you can take a look at the entire world, plan your next steps, as well as recruit and deploy troops. In turn-based mode, you move your forces from province to province and decide on the next target of your invasion.

The third part of the game is the battle screen. The battles are fought at sea, on land, and in air, and involve different kinds of war machines and dragons. During the clashes, you can take direct control over a single unit from a third person perspective, or take care of commanding the entire army. In the first case, you play as the commander in chief who is flying freely around on a fire-breathing beast through a three-dimensional battlefield, and actively uses his unique skills. What is important, as you progress through the game, you can develop your character as in a traditional RPG. In the second mode, giving orders and navigating through the battlefield is similar to typical RTS games, like StarCraft.

In addition to the single player campaign and single missions, you can also check your strengths in online skirmishes designed for up to four people.
