Bravely Default: Flying Fairy is a traditional representative of the jRPG game genre. The title was created in one of the Square Enix development studios, and its production was supervised by Tomoy Asano, Akihiko Yoshida, as well as a number of other artists who had not cooperated with the Japanese giant so far. Asano as a producer has worked on Nintendo DS games such as Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light. Yoshida, on the other hand, is a character designer and graphic designer whose quickly recognizable style we could see in such graphics as Vagrant Story, Tactics Ogre: Let US Cling Together, Final Fantasy XII or Final Fantasy Tactics.

Game designers wanted their work to resemble and reflect the atmosphere of classic Japanese RPG games, which appeared in the first half of the 90's. This can be seen both in character designs, as well as in the approach to creating the world and combat mechanics. Locations visited during the game are two-dimensional graphics on which a three-dimensional model of the character moves. Manually drawn backgrounds are animated, changing with time of day and created from multiple layers that give the impression of depth, further enhanced by the 3D mode, supported by the 3DS console. We travel extensively using a map of the world. The fight takes place in turn-based mode on three-dimensional arenas. Meetings with enemies are random and we do not see them directly before the battle. We develop characters by assigning them different specializations, this system works similarly to Final Fantasy V.
