Ski Jumping 2012

A mobile ski jumping simulator with a number of managerial features. The game, developed by Vivid Games, allows us to create a custom player from scratch and lead him through the world of ski jumping. Our duties include buying equipment and planning a workout schedule, as well as taking part in further competitions, systematically increasing our statistics. The jumping itself is quite complicated – the player has to focus on each section (inrun, take-off, flight, and landing), as the judges grade the style of the jump following these guidelines. The jumps are also affected by wind and dynamic weather conditions. Unfortunately, the game lacks the official license of ski jumping events, which leaves us with placeholder names of all participants. We are left with appealing visuals and intuitive controls employing the touch controls or built-in gyroscope.

Super Ski Jump is a mobile sports game for Android OS devoted to ski jumping. The Android OS version is just a slightly modified version of the latest installment of the Ski Jumping series known to Apple devices’ users since 2010. Both title were developed by Vivid Games.

Mechanics

While playing, we assume the role of a ski jumper that we personally made, and our task is to help him develop his career. By taking care of equipment management, adequate training, and taking part in various tournaments, we systematically enhance the ski jumper’s abilities so that he can win trophies, break records, and become a true champion. The game lets us participate in classical World Cup and other tournament modes.

Naturally, ski jumping is at the core of Super Ski Jump. Mastering them requires intensive training and impeccable technique. While jumping, we have to take care of every of four phases such as inrun, take-off, flight, and landing. All of these elements are strictly rated by referees and our total score is influenced not only by the length of the jump but also its technique. The game’s controls are based on either the touchscreen or the built-in gyroscope. For the best results, we have to keep the right indicators on the green field. This task is difficult because of the dynamically changing wind. The title lets adjust the difficulty level to our personal skills.

Technical aspects

Super Ski Jump for Android OS is characterized by well-made three-dimensional graphics. The developers carefully recreated over 30 most important ski jumping hills, including their surroundings and varied weather conditions. The camera presents the action from the first-person perspective. While descending, we can feel a realistic feeling of speed. The game’s disadvantage is the lack of license to use real names of actual ski jumpers, but ski jumping fans shouldn’t have any problem recognizing their favorites. The atmosphere of competition is intensified by the Internet player scoreboards that let us compare our results with other players.

Ski Jumping 2012 is the third mobile installment of the ski jumping simulation game series for Apple iOS. The franchise was created in 2012 on iOS-powered devices and is systematically developed by Vivid Games, a Polish studio, ever since.

Mechanics

In the game, we can create our own ski jumper and lead him to sports successes on the most important ski jumping hills in the world. The primary game mode is obviously the World Cup tournament in which contestants gather points in their struggle for the Crystal Globe prize. Apart from that, we can take in a Tournament that takes place on several ski jumping hills, practice our jumping technique in Quick Match, or even create our own tournament.

Ski Jumping 2012 is characterized by quite advanced mechanics. The gameplay is more realistic thanks to dynamically changing wind. To make long and technically correct jumps, we have to master four phases which are: inrun, take-off, flight, and landing. While jumping, our primary goal is to ensure the ski jumper’s balance by touching the adequate part of the screen or tiling the device. We make a good jump only when we manage to keep all indicators in the green fields. Otherwise, we will not reach an appropriate descent speed and our contestant will lean from side to side which makes it impossible to fly far. All of the above elements are rated by referees so a proper technique is equally important to the flight’s length.

Technical aspects

Ski Jumping 2012 is characterized by high-quality three-dimensional graphics and uses the first-person perspective. Twenty real ski jumping hills, including those in Kuusamo, Lillehammer and Planica, were recreated for the purposes of the game. The title doesn’t have the license to use surnames of actual ski jumpers and therefore we can see only their names and the initial letter of their last name. Ski jumping fans shouldn’t have any problem recognizing their favorites, though.

Ski Jumping 2012 for PC / Windows is a sports game dedicated to one of the most spectacular winter sports – ski jumping. The game is a slightly remade version of Ski Jumping, an iOS series released in 2011 by Vivid Games, a Polish studio based in Bydgoszcz.

Mechanics

Ski Jumping 2012 for PC / Windows offers the ability to create a personalized participant and take part in a number of modes, including Quick Jump, an ability to take part in a single event, World Cup, a series of events with season scoreboards, and Tournament, a multi-venue event. We are also left with an ability to create our own competition.

We are left with 20 authentic ski jumping venues, including Planica, Lillehammer, or Kuusamo. Unfortunately, the game does not contain real figures and or the license of ski jumping federations – the participants are known only from their first name and the first letter of the surname. As a result, we are facing competitors such as Severin F., Johan Remen E., or Kamil S.

Technical Aspects

The game is characterized by colorful three-dimensional visuals, while the jumps are made from a first person perspective. The jump consists of four elements: in-run, take-off, flight, and landing. To perform a correct jump, we need to keep a steady position (marked by an indicator, which corresponds to our balance during the attempt). For example, if we are had not performed a balanced in-run, our speed will be insufficient to make a good take-off. This mechanic controls each part of the attempt. Moreover, we have to watch out for the wind, which severely influences our balance during the flight.

Each jump is evaluated by the judges, who grade the take-off, technique, and landing. Each of these elements are graded separately, with special emphasis on style. Players interested in rivalry have access to global online ladder that allows them to share their results with other competitors.
