The most calculatedly controversial game of the year arrives for the Nintendo GameCube.

Publisher Acclaim essentially took the pro riders out of Acclaim's serviceable Dave Mirra BMX and crammed in lots of naughty business. The result is what is politely known as an adult-oriented game, where adult doesn't mean grown-up responsibilities like mortgage payments. Suffice to say that the game won't win any sensitivity awards-- in addition to humor of questionable taste, it also contains nudity.

Early on, Acclaim proudly pointed out the all-new motion-captured rider moves, 1,700-plus tricks, 10 huge environments and a Create-A-Rider system. Of late though the public relations push has focused on thousands of scripted jokes and events created by some of Hollywood's top comedic writers. We'll see about that, but early word is that all those jokes aren't funny as much as they are Eh? Did they actually say that?

The macho soundtrack mix includes tunes from aging guy faves Green Day, 311 and Mötley Crüe. How merry pranksters De La Soul slipped in remains a mystery, but they're probably grateful for the royalty payments.
