Backyard Sports: Rookie Rush, released on PC, X360, Wii and NDS, is the second attempt after Backyard Sports: Sandlot Sluggers to refresh the popular series of sports games for the youngest players. The game was developed by HB Studios.

Mechanics

The gameplay in Backyard Sports: Rookie Rush has little to do with realism. Admittedly, matches are played with respect for the basic rules of American football, but the gameplay is rather arcade, and during the matches, players can use various special attacks and moves (e.g. Banana Peel, Twinkle Toes and Stinky Pants). The creators also took care to diversify the fun through mini-games related to the training of characters and teams.

Game modes

In the campaign mode (story mode), players follow the adventures of Pablo, Dmitri and Joey. The kids from Meadowbrook meet new friends with whom they play exciting American football matches on 12 backyard fields.

In addition to the campaign, which should provide more than 20 hours of fun, the game also offers several other modes, including quick play, pick up, tournament, season and family fun. The matches can be played against computer artificial intelligence or other players, with a maximum of four of them taking part in multiplayer battles.

Technical aspects

The visuals of Backyard Sports: Rookie Rush are based on solutions known from Backyard Sports: Sandlot Sluggers. Simplified three-dimensional environment resembles a cartoon. Exaggerated silhouettes of the characters and interactive elements of the environment attract attention.
