Rise of the Ravager

Rise of the Ravager is another, after Three Dead Zed, production by independent studio Gentleman Squid. This time, the developers took inspirations from Aztec myths connected with the end of the world.

Plot

As befits an old-style arcade game, the story in the game is not particularly extensive. The prophecy, almost completely erased from human memory, according to which the ancient God intends to return to Earth, sowing death and destruction, is being fulfilled. However, the approaching armageddon can be stopped thanks to technology left by the ancient people.

Mechanics

The gameplay in Rise of the Ravager is modelled on the cult game Space Invaders. The player directs the fire from a moving cannon at the top of an ancient pyramid. Its task is to annihilate enemies falling from the top of the screen before they can reach the ground. The fun is enriched by exciting fights with bosses, as well as the possibility of modifying armament and building additional defensive structures.

Game modes

The single-player campaign in Rise of the Ravager consists of a series of missions of increasing difficulty. It is complemented by a simple multiplayer, allowing cooperation fun for up to four players playing on the same screen.

Technical aspects

Rise of the Ravager uses hand-drawn 2D graphics referring to the Aztec culture. This is especially evident in the enemy designs which may evoke associations with paintings and sculptures of ancient deities. The soundtrack includes musical pieces performed with traditional South American instruments, such as drums or a pan flute.
