PS4 PSV

One Way Trip, released on PS4 and PSV, is an original - in terms of idea and execution - action-adventure game, whose authors try to answer the question of how would a man behave in the face of the news that they have a few hours of life left? Michael Frauenhofer and his small, independent Beret Applications studio are responsible for the creation of the game. They have already produced equally original productions for mobile devices.

Plot

The main character and his brother discover that mankind has fallen victim to a chemical attack that has poisoned most of the water resources with an unknown substance. The poison kills 6 hours after infection, causing additional uncontrolled hallucinations before death. The situation causes that the heroes will spend the last hours of their lives - filled with a series of moral choices - on a continuous high. The fate not only of them but also of many side characters will depend on what decisions they make and how they decide to spend their remaining time.

Game modes

One Way Trip is divided into two main game modes. The first is the classic storyline mode, where the developers leave players free to choose how they want to spend their last hours of life. What's worth noting is that most of the game's content is generated procedurally, and the character's story and fate change depending on what decisions we make. The second variant of the game is the battle mode, reminiscent of a typical multiplayer "horde", combining elements of RPG, turn-based strategy and classic online shooters. Together with a group of selected companions, we repel subsequent hordes of enemies - this rewards us with more and more difficult challenges and improvements to our equipment.

Technical aspects

The absurdity of the situation presented in One Way Trip is emphasized by the exceptionally original, hand-drawn graphics, which, apart from the specific artistic style, is full of abstract scenes and views emphasizing the state in which the game's protagonists found themselves. Despite its rather humorous setting, One Way Trip deals with various important topics, such as interpersonal relationships, morality and the irreversible consequences of human actions.
