Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice for 3DS is another installment of the spin-off series of action games. The title is a accompanying the animated television series starring one of the most popular console characters for kids – the titular hedgehog named Sonic. Similarly as the previous installment of the series that was released on Nintendo 3DS console, the title was developed by Sanzaru Games studio for SEGA.

Mechanics

The title continues to use mechanics from the poorly received Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal. The game is a classic, two-dimensional platform game in which the protagonists of the TV series must face completely new enemy named D-Fekt. Sonic’s arch nemesis, Dr. Eggman, also appears in the game. Fire & Ice for 3DS allows the player to assume control over five playable characters. Amy Rose joins the characters from the previous entry in the series.

As in every platform game, in Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice for 3DS the player will have much jumping to do, many action sequences to complete and simple riddles to solve. The usage of two titular elements, ice and fire, is a novelty in the game. The elements allow the protagonists to use completely new abilities which will prove to be needed for completing levels of the game.

Technical aspects

Visuals of Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice for 3DS is based on the same models as its predecessor and it has colorful style characteristic for the whole series. Similarly as in previous installment, in addition to singleplayer mode the game also offers multiplayer modes such as Bot Racing.
