Twisted Metal is a brutal racing game for PSP, PS3 and PSV platforms, considered one of the precursors of the so-called "vehicular combat" genre. The game was developed by SingleTrac, founded by former employees of Evans & Sutherland, dealing with professional computer graphics.

Plot

The titular Twisted Metal is the name of a tournament organized by a mysterious individual known as Calypso. Every year, he sends invitations to the most recognized drivers of the world, offering to take part in the brutal competition between armed cars. The biggest prize is an audience with Calypso himself, during which he can fulfill one wish of the winner. What is important, the winner can wish for anything - not only money or power but regarding every aspect of life.

The tournament organized in 2005 in Los Angeles has brought a whole lot of original individuals. They include a psychiatric hospital escapee, a policeman who wants to eradicate crime, a military officer trying to get an important object for the army, a taxi driver looking for a missing son and a motorcyclist who feeds on the souls of the dead. Each character has their own special attacks.

Mechanics

The single-player mode consists of six consecutive levels, with more and more opponents appearing in each level. The culmination of the game is the competition with the final boss - Minion. In addition to special attacks, each vehicle can use a machine gun with infinite ammunition. This is not all, however, because during the fights we can get a number of other deadly items, such as mines, rockets, caltrop and oil. At any given moment, we can carry up to 30 different types of weapons. Before the start, each player has three lives at their disposal, which they lose if the damage bar falls to zero. The energy can, of course, be replenished by driving through special repair zones.

Game modes

The relatively short single-player campaign offered by Twisted Metal is diversified by the multiplayer mode, in which 2 players can compete on one console.

Technical aspects

Twisted Metal has average graphics, but the game runs smoothly, has great gameplay dynamic, and features quite a large selection of vehicles and weapons.
