A turn-based RPG focusing strongly on strategic aspects and created by Pixelated Milk - a Polish developer. The player is taken to a peaceful fantasy world and assumes the role of Kay Loren - a young nobleman whose father reveals on his deathbed the existence of a distant land belonging to their family. Once the protagonist arrives in the place, it turns out that the entire land is ruined and the family was charged with a large debt. Kay decides to restore the ruined city to its magnificent state and take back the neighboring areas from the wildlife occupying them. The player's tasks are to construct buildings, gather resources, develop technologies and manage the land appropriately, so it can generate adequate amounts of money. Regalia: Of Men And Monarchs for PlayStation Vita is a turn-based RPG featuring strategy elements. It was created by a Polish developer known as Pixelated Milk.

Plot

The game is set in a fantasy world filled with magic. All the wars were ended a long time ago and peace is a commonly shared value. The player takes on the role of a young nobleman by the name of Kay Loren. Before his death, Kay's father reveals to him that in a distant region known as Rashytil, areas belonging to the family exist. Once his father is buried, the protagonist along with two sisters and a loyal knight decide to travel to Rashytil in order to take control over the areas the deceased father spoke about. Unfortunately, it turns out that the entire land is destroyed. The town of Ascalia is ruined and most of the territory has been occupied by wildlife. As if this was not enough, a debt collector contacts Kay soon, informing him that a long time ago, his family received a loan. Now, along with the interest, the debt has grown to extremely large proportions and the protagonist has to pay it.

Mechanics

In Regalia: Of Men And Monarchs for PlayStation Vita, the player's main task during the campaign is to restore the city's magnificence, for it is the main source of money required both for development and to pay the debt. Along the way, the player has to discover the causes behind destruction of the territories the protagonist inherited. The game world is inhabited by many NPCs having their own unique personalities and biographies. Through conversations and interactions with them, the player shapes dynamic relationships that affect further developments in the story.

For the most part, the player explores the game world, completes quests and above all - fights the enemies. Battles are turn-based here and maps where they take place are covered with square grids. Up to five characters can belong to the player's team at a time - the protagonist plus four companions chosen from among twelve persons that can be met during the entire campaign in total. Each character has their unique abilities, which affect the course of each battle to a great extent. Interestingly, the game does not feature spells or potions regenerating health. Instead, the player needs to focus on minimalizing the damage taken by using shields, armors and environmental objects that can serve as cover. Obviously, the game features a development system allowing to improve the statistics and abilities of the characters.

Between battles, the player develops the town, mainly by constructing new buildings, upgrading the existing ones, gathering resources, improving technologies and caring for the inhabitants. The player can also establish diplomatic and commercial relations with other nations, as well as send characters on one-person missions. The strategic aspects are tightly interconnected with role-playing mechanics, thus the player's decisions have direct impact on the course of the adventures. For instance, if the player manages to obtain a blacksmith for the town, they can visit them later in order to modify weaponry or armors. Furthermore, the player is entirely free to explore the town - the protagonist can enter every building and talk to every subordinate.
