Assassin's Creed: Origins

Assassin's Creed: Empire

The seventh major installment in the Ubisoft's best-selling action game series. Plotwise, Assassin's Creed: Empire is a sort of prequel to the entire series, taking players so far back in time as none other installment did - to the ancient Egypt, long before the two opposing orders of Assassins and Templars were founded. Players play the part of a slave, a distant ancestor to Altair - the protagonist of the first Assassin's Creed. Concerning mechanics, the title does not differ significantly from previous installments of the series, still being primarily an adventure game, supplemented with action sequences and carefully planned assassinations. The game world was, of course, with reverence typical of the franchise, adapted to the new setting, bringing back things like the possibility to mount animals or use boats. On the technical side, Empire is said to avoid relying on the achievements of previous installments, while our area of activity is approximately three times larger than what was offered by Assassin's Creed IV.

Assassin's Creed: Empire for PlayStation 4 is the seventh major installment in the bestselling action adventure series, that tells of the longtime conflict between the Orders of Assassins and Templars. After consecutive adventures taking place chronologically during the Crusades, Italian Renaissance, American Revolutionary War, Golden Age of Piracy, French Revolution, and Victorian era, this time we go back into the distant past – to ancient Egypt. This part of the Ubisoft's saga was developed by the company's Montreal branch – the team whose core comprises of people responsible for, among others, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

Story

Concerning the plot, Assassin's Creed: Empire for PlayStation 4 is a sort of a prequel to the entire series, taking the players furthest, so far, back in time, to ancient Egypt, long before the two opposing Orders were even founded. During the game we play the part of a slave with a slightly darker skin, who is a distant ancestor of Altair – the protagonist of the first Assassin's Creed. Having set the plot in a relatively poorly documented historical period, developers could enjoy the utmost freedom (compared to previous installments of the series) in creating the story.

Gameplay

General foundations of gameplay in Assassin's Creed: Empire for PlayStation 4 do not differ significantly from the solutions known from previous installments of the series – so we are still dealing with basically an adventure game, in which action sequences and carefully planned assassinations are used only to supplement actual gameplay, which focuses on exploration and completing successive quests. As the game had to be adapted to a realm completely new for the series, the title brings back, among others, the possibility to mount animals and travel by boat. Considerable emphasis was also put on diversifying combat mechanics, as well as player's progress and the development of the player character.

Game modes

Assassin's Creed: Empire for PlayStation 4 is a game focused primarily on single player, and as a result, among other things, it completely abandons the co-op mode known from some previous installments.

Technology

Assassin’s Creed: Empire for PlayStation 4 rarely relies on the achievements of previous installments, and one of the few components that were recycled by the developer from the previous entries are character animations. Game world was, of course, adapted to match the new historical setting, recreated with reverence typical to the series. Evidence of this can be, for example, mirages appearing in the desert. At the same time the world has significantly increased in size and is now approximately three times larger than what Assassin's Creed IV offered.
