Prince of Persia for PC, X360 and PS3 was created by Ubisoft Montreal - the creators of the three previous installments: Sands of Time, Warrior Within and The Two Thrones. However, the game opens a completely different chapter in the adventures of the titular Prince. The Prince himself is different here, both the story and the world have changed as well. The game utilizes the Anvil engine, used also by Assassin's Creed.

Plot

In Prince of Persia for PC, X360 and PS3, the story has its roots in Zoroastrianism - one of the oldest religions in the world. Ormazd - the god of light, and the opposite Ahriman (the god of darkness) are constantly interconnected in their never-ending fight over domination in the world. Ormazd defeats his brother and locks him in the Tree of Life, hidden somewhere in the magical oasis. Then he gathers the people of Ahura and commands them to protect the Tree.

When two generations pass, the people of Ahura are beginning to die out. They are losing their hope, and Ahriman decides to use it to his advantage. He escapes and rebuilds the corrupt world in the magical oasis. The Prince has to stop him and prevent his disease from spreading out.

Mechanics

The gameplay consists largely of healing the corrupt oasis gradually in order to save the legendary Tree of Life (vide Okami, Shadow of the Colossus or The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess). In so doing, the protagonist kills guards who serve the role of bosses. They are the ones poisoning different parts of the land. Although combat is still a significant part of the game, enemies are fewer in quantity than in the previous installments - they are substantially more powerful now instead. One versus one fights are prevailing in the game (fighting with swords). Eliminating the enemies is facilitated by an improved combat system allowing to perform spectacular combos.

What is important, the protagonist is constantly accompanied by a supporting character. Her name is Elika, and she is incredibly helpful in combat (she uses magic), puzzle solving and finding the right way. She is not a liability however - the player does not have to watch over her constantly, for she manages perfectly everywhere.

In Prince of Persia for PC, X360 and PS3, platformer elements are still a huge aspect of the game. The protagonist can jump and climb almost anywhere - he is an aerialist in full sense of the word. Furthermore, the game combines open world mechanics with linear gameplay, for the player can explore a given location freely or take a quest they wish to complete.

The creators introduce a different art style to the series in this installment - this time, the graphics were created using cel shading techniques. Also, the story is presented by different means. The visuals are subtle and very detailed, and the Prince himself has different looks.
