The Silver Case for PC and PS4 is a detective adventure game whose main scriptwriter and designer is Suda 51 – Goichi Suda, known for titles such as Lollipop Chainsaw, Killer is Dead, or No More Heroes series. It’s a remake of a title released in 1999 for PlayStation, which was a first game released by Grasshopper Manufacture studio. The remake was developed by Playism, closely supported by the authors of the original game.

Plot

The remake offers exactly the same plot as in the original game. The Silver Case takes place in Japan during 1999, in an area known as 24 Districts. The place is shocked by a series of brutal, but at the same time strange murders.

The game focuses on a local police precinct whose workers, while working on the case determine that the ideal suspect would be an infamous killer Kamui Uehara, known from few successful assassinations of the most important cabinet members. The thing is that Uehara was killed few years earlier by one of the detectives working for 24 District’s homicide bureau.

What’s interesting, the game contains two scenarios. The first tells the story from the policemen side, while the second one allows the player to look at the situation as a journalist investigating the same case.

Mechanics

When it comes to mechanics, The Silver Case for PC and PS4 is a typical adventure game, focusing on exploring locations, conversations, gathering items, and solving riddles. All these elements have been realized in a manner typical for detective games. We look for evidence and clues, interrogate witnesses and suspects, and take care of other aspects of the investigation.

Of course, certain changes had to be introduced in relation with the predecessor from 1999. The visuals have been created from scratch, using Unity 5 engine – but this mainly concerns 3D sequences, as the authors kept most of the two-dimensional elements, retouching them a bit. Additionally, some of the riddles had to be remade, as they have been built on elements specific to Japanese language.
