How We Soar for PS4 is an exploration game in which you travel through the world on the back of a mythical bird Phoenix. The game by British Penny Black – a studio set up by former employees of Crytek and Free Radical Design - is designed for PlayStation VR.

Plot

The action of How We Soar takes us to a fantasy world projected in the mind of an undefined author. During exploration you are trying to restore order in this world and put the writer’s shattered memories back together. All of this is done from the back of the mythical, fiery bird – a Phoenix.

Mechanics

The game by Penny Black primarily concentrates on exploration in which interaction with the world plays a key role. It is built almost entirely from paper models made of the mysterious writer’s book pages. At the beginning of each stage the world seems completely torn to pieces. As you progress and delve more deeply into memories of the writer, you gradually bring back peace by adding colours, revealing hidden secrets, and remodelling disfigured shapes into distinguishable objects. At the same time, you also piece particular elements of the history together.

Technical aspects

Published on PS4, How We Soar was developed with the use of Unreal Engine 4 – the most favourite tool of almost every VR games developer. Due to this technology, you can immerse in the game as you could never before. The realistic experience of freedom of flying on the back of a Phoenix, during which the DualShock controller serves as reins, can be compared to the popular scene from the Harry Potter movie, in which he mounts a Hippogriff for the first time.
