Tower 57 for PC, PS4 and XONE is an old-school shooter inspired by 16-bit games, in particular the Chaos Engine series. The game has been developed by Pixwerk in cooperation with 11 bit studios.

Plot

The game is set in a devastated dieselpunk world, where gigantic towers are the only places harboring what remains of human civilization. The story focuses on the adventures of a group comprising seven daredevils who attempt to infiltrate the titular Tower 57.

Mechanics

In Tower 57 for PC, PS4 and XONE, players observe, from a top-down perspective, how characters fight off hordes of enemies and utilize a rich arsenal of diverse weaponry. The gameplay is very dynamic, and players can destroy many elements of the environment.

In the game, one assumes the role of one of the seven available protagonists, each one featuring a unique set of skills and a number of available destructive weapons. The entire experience falls under the typical twin-stick shooter convention, which means the player can freely aim no matter which direction our character is facing.

Game modes

Tower 57 delivers both single player campaign and the cooperative mode – players can choose to play either the online or the local multiplayer co-op. When playing with other players, one should notice that characters’ skills complement each other – e.g. one of the available weapons can nail enemies to the walls, while another player can stick the course with his flamethrower.

Technical aspects

Tower 57 is a spiritual successor to shooter games released on Amiga and Atari ST. Creators did not limit themselves only to recreate the mechanics featured by those games – also the audiovisuals are bound to remind players of these classic productions. Pixels are clearly visible; however, character and location models make for a faithful recreation of style predominant among 16-bit games.
