Toy Odyssey: The Lost and Found for the PC, PS4 and XONE, has been developed by the Hikergames studio. The production resembles not only platformer and action games, but also draws inspiration from the roguelike and metroidvania genres.

Plot

In Toy Odyssey: The Lost and Found the players step into the shoes of Brand – an animated, toy hero, who is tasked with battling against the forces of darkness that want to take control over of his owner, Felix. As we later discover, this is only the tip of the iceberg, and our protagonist must uncover the mysteries of the family home and his own past. Luckily, he is not alone in his endeavours, as during his adventure, Brand gathers various allies. The developers have prepared over 30 thousand lines of dialogue, and the plot itself is further enhanced by new story arcs and numerous plot twists.

Mechanics

The action in Toy Odyssey: The Lost and Found for the PC, PS4 and XONE is viewed from a side-view camera angle. The gameplay revolves around several core segments, the first of which is exploration. Subsequent levels are procedurally generated, which drastically increases the game’s replayability, allowing us to receive a slightly different experience each time we play. Furthermore, while we make progress in the adventure, our hero gains additional skills, and as a direct result unlocks access to previously unavailable locations. Exploring various zones can prove to be quite difficult, due to the huge number of traps, dangers and puzzles that have been integrated into the environment. The crafting system can also be a very helpful tool, as it allows us to produce new weapons and armour, as well as upgrade the equipment we already own.

Our protagonist will encounter over 300 unique opponents, such as tanks, teddy bears and even origami pieces. Apart from the regular enemies, who do not present that much of a challenge to our hero, we will also have to face several bosses – in this case, the key to success lies in devising the appropriate strategy. The Base Defence mechanism is also a noteworthy feature – the bedroom is the only safe spot in the entire house, therefore our hero has to defend it from the relentless assaults of evil toys. The developers have drawn inspiration from renowned, 16-bit productions, which also brings a very high difficulty level.

Technical aspects

Toy Odyssey: The Lost and Found for the PC, PS4 and XONE is distinguished by its high quality, 2D graphics. The title was made to resemble cartoons and the colourful textures, as well as the extremely detailed environment, provide a visual experience of a very high standard. All of the above is complemented by a original, distinctive soundtrack, which further develops the game’s atmosphere.
