Cars 3: Driven to Win for PlayStation 4 is another installment of Cars, a series of games based on Pixar’s animated movies. The third game is obviously based on Cars 3, a movie that debuted in 2017. The game was developed by Avalanche Software, a studio that worked on previous entries in the series and the once-popular Disney Infinity franchise. What’s interesting, the studio was closed by Disney in Mai 2016, but later it was sold to Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment which reopened it and gave the boss position back to John Blackburn.

Plot

Although the plot isn’t important in Cars 3: Driven to Win for PlayStation 4, the developers made sure that it is faithful to the movie and that it would contain new details. The game tells the story of Lightning McQueen and Cruz Ramirez who are preparing to meet their great rival Jackson Storm.

Mechanics

The game belongs to the genre of arcade races similar to Mario Kart series. The developers provided more than twenty customizable cars-characters (the protagonists of Cars are animated vehicles) that are used to race across twenty unique tracks (including the famous Radiator Springs and Florida International Speedway) scattered across thirteen varied locations. The machines can be upgraded in various ways. For example, turbo temporarily increases speed, drifting affects turning and driving backwards is an ability to ride backwards.

Another thing related to vehicle development in Cars 3: Driven to Win for PlayStation 4 is bonuses. Training and participating in tests unlocks additional game modes, characters, tracks and other things.

Technical aspects

Cars 3: Driven to Win for PlayStation 4 is a three-dimensional game that tries to recreate the graphics of the movie it is based on. Characters, tracks and other things were faithfully recreated so that the fans of the movies will easily recognize characteristic places and their favorite characters.
