Splasher

An original platformer game created by Splashteam - an independent studio founded by a former employee of Ubisoft's, who had co-created such games as Rayman Origins or Rayman Legends. Splasher takes the player to the headquarters of Inkorp, which is a company managed by Le Docteur. This ominous figure decides to break the daily routine at the company and bring the workers to their knees. One of the employees is the game's protagonist, who tries to stop the villain and save his co-workers. The player makes use of an unusual weapon here - the Splatter Cannon, which shoots with color ink. The core of the experience is constituted by exploration, avoiding different traps, and fighting the enemies encountered. Depending on the ink color used, the player gets different results, such as dealing damage, creating surfaces to climb on, sticking the protagonist to various objects, or bouncing the titular Splasher off them. The protagonist dies relatively often; learning the lessons brought by one's mistakes is the key to victory in this game.

Splasher for PC / Windows is an original platformer game created by Splashteam - an independent developer. The studio was founded by Romain Clyde - a former designer of Ubisoft's, who had worked on Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends. The game was published by Plug In Digital.

Plot

Splasher takes the player to the headquarters of the Inkorp corporation. Its friendly workers (Splashers) used to simply do their part on a daily basis. However, the ominous Docteur (the manager) decided to break this routine in a painful way, aiming to bring his subordinates to their knees. One of the employees is the protagonist, who tries to stop the evil figure and save his co-workers. This main character has one unusual weapon only at their disposal - it is the so-called Splatter Cannon, which grants the protagonist a significant advantage over his opponents.

Mechanics

Splasher for PC / Windows is played from a side view. The core of the experience is made up of exploring extensive locations, avoiding many traps, and fighting the enemies encountered. All of these actions involve using the gun, which shoots with color ink. Thus the protagonist can stick himself to objects colored blue, which also allows to use them as ladders. The player can use the orange ink to bounce the protagonist off objects; when it comes to attacking the adversaries, the red ink is used. The player encounters different enemies, also the larger bosses. Different defensive mechanisms constitute another threat to the protagonist - among those, one will find rotary saws, acid geysers or automatic cannons.

Because the gameplay is incredibly dynamic here, the main character dies relatively often. However, the creators had consulted the concept behind it with professional speed-runners, thus learning the lessons brought by one's mistakes combined with the ability to make quick choices constitutes the key to victory here, though quick reflexes are also important. The player's actions are monitored in real time by the game's scoring system; one's achievements can be shared on the game's online leaderboards.

Game modes

Splasher for PC / Windows offers different game modes. Apart from the standard story mode, one can launch here a Time Attack, which requires them to complete a given level within a specified amount of time. Apart from that, the game brings three speedrun variants: Selfish Speedrun (no collectibles, quarantine zones or Splashers waiting for help), Standard Speedrun (an ordinary run except for the stopwatch displayed on the screen), and Gotta Catch'em All (one has to save all the Splashers present in particular levels).

Technical aspects

Splasher offers high-quality 2D visuals representing a cartoonish graphic style. Although the visuals are not as rich here, the game brings popular platformers into mind, such as the aforementioned Rayman series. The experience is complemented by a soundtrack consisting of fast-paced, electronic music.

System requirements

Minimum: AMD Athlon II X2 250 3.0 GHz, 4 GB RAM, graphic card 1 GB Radeon 5750 or better, 1.3 GB HDD, Windows 7
