8DAYS

8DAYS is a twin-stick shooter developed by Spanish studio Santa Clara Games. The game was released on several platforms, one of which is PS4, PC and XONE, by BadLand Games, whose portfolio includes well-received Dex as well as Anima: Gate of Memories.

Plot

8DAYS is set in an alternative future, in which the world is controlled by two powerful organizations. G.O.D. (Gold, Oil and Diamond, Inc.) is an army of mercenaries on the government’s payroll, while the eponymous 8DAYS is a newspaper which spreads propaganda in favor of the ruling class. In the game you play as two soldiers: Mike “Ghost”, an Australian survival expert, and vengeful woman Lola, nicknamed “Wasp”. Their job is to nip developing conflicts in the bud.

Mechanics

8DAYS for PS4, PC and XONE consists of five different missions, which take us to various places around the globe. Some of the places you visit are a picturesque coast, top-secret military compounds, or deserts of the Middle East. Viewed from top-down perspective, the locations are of an open structure, thanks to which you can solve problems in multiple ways. The latter is also aided by an advanced AI, which adapts to your play style, forcing you to use varying solutions.

Gameplay comes down to eliminating whole armies of enemies. Ordinary opponents, who are coming up from everywere, are often accompanied by heavily armored bosses. In battles you can use a large arsenal of weapons – apart from pistols, assault rifles and shotguns, you can lay your hands on a rocket launcher, spreading havoc in enemy ranks. What adds to the game’s replayability, is the abundance of secrets waiting to be discovered and extra characters to unlock.

Game modes

In 8DAYS you can play either alone or in company of another player – the game offers co-op multiplayer, which allows two people play in split-screen.

Technical aspects

8DAYS for PS4, PC and XONE is characterized by its simple, pixel art graphics, which resembles the stylistics used in the bestselling Hotline Miami. Gameplay is accompanied by dynamic soundtrack, which you can buy separately from the game.
