A King's Tale: Final Fantasy XV is a side-scrolling action RPG and a prequel to the fifteenth installment of Final Fantasy. The title was released, among other platforms, on PS4 and XONE and it was developed by Square-Enix, the owners of the Final Fantasy franchise.

Plot

A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV takes place before Final Fantasy XV. Young prince Noctis asks his father, king Regis, to tell him a story. The ruler, who is the main protagonist of this game, decides to tell him about the events that occurred thirty years earlier, when evil monsters attacked Insomnia, the capital city of Lucis. Young Regis joined forces with his three friends and together they faced the danger.

Mechanics

The action of A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV is a side-scroller. The gameplay is based on simple principles: going to the right and fighting hordes of enemies. The fights take place in real time and the player has access to many individual and group attacks – including counters and creating combos. The player can use melee weapons and elemental-based magic. In dire situations one can also use the help of Summons – powerful creatures that can decimate opponents.

Technical aspects

A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV for PS4 and XONE has the spirit of classic, 16-bit productions. Two-dimensional graphics use pixel art style that isn’t very impressive. However, some advanced visual effects such, as flashes that appear while casting spells, accompany the old-school feel.
