Europa Universalis IV: Mandate of Heaven is an expansion for 2013’s grand strategy game for PC / Windows by Paradox Interactive. It is a non-standalone add-on that requires the core game in order to work.
The production is focused on East Asia especially on the Chinese Ming dynasty, Japan, and Manchurian tribes. With Mandate of Heaven installed, playing these factions is a more interesting experience that offers more details, options, and unique events and challenges than the core game.
The expansion introduces the so-called Golden Eras which are 50-year periods of prosperity and top power. Achieving them requires us to meet certain requirements but the effort is well rewarded. Moreover, Chinese rulers can promote meritocracy which allows them to hire talented advisors cheaply. This, in turn, makes the country more stable and thus functions efficiently regardless of who currently sits on the throne.
Some Asian powers can now demand their weaker neighbors to pay tribute in the form of gold, people, or favors. Moreover, Manchurian provinces were given the option of quick and cheap summoning of an army raised by warrior tribes that live in a given territory. Playing Japan, we can rule under the laws of shogunate which expands interaction options with local rulers, including forcing them into obedience or even committing seppuku.
Europa Universalis IV: Mandate of Heaven for PC / Windows enhances the diplomacy interface, as well, which highlights the most popular actions, making them close at hand. The expansion also offers a myriad of new historical events and choices.
