Medal of Honor is a FPP shooter set in World War II, created exclusively for PS1 console. DreamWorks Interactive, founded in 1995 by Steven Spielberg, David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg as a joint venture of Microsoft and DreamWorks Pictures, is responsible for developing the game.

Plot

The story told in Medal of Honor was created in cooperation with the famous director and producer Steven Spielberg. We play the role of Lieutenant Jimmy Patterson - former pilot of the C-47 transporter, recruited by OSS (the direct predecessor of today's CIA). The action takes place in the final period of the World War II (mid-1944 to mid-1945), and the goal is to perform various tasks, such as destroying the position of the enemy while eliminating the soldiers who manned them.

Mechanics

Compared to most of today's dynamic FPP shooters, the gameplay in Medal of Honor is slightly more tactical. Although the game has many moments where we simply shoot enemies, it is often better to use various tactical maneuvers and terrain covers. Some of the tasks even require a stealth approach. We eliminate enemies by using a wide arsenal of historical and meticulously recreated weapons from the World War II, from pistols and rifles (e.g. Colt 1911A, M1 Garand, M1903/A5 Springfield, M1A1 Thompson, Browning Automatic Rifle or Winchester Model 12) to grenades, explosives, and bazooka rocket launchers. It is also possible to use some Nazi weapons (e.g. Walther P38 and MP40).

Game modes

The basic mode in Medal of Honor is a story campaign offering seven missions, during which we visit various countries participating in World War II, such as France, Germany and Norway. In addition, the game offers the opportunity to play in deathmatch mode on a split-screen, where players compete against each other on several different maps.

Additional information

Full 3D graphics of Medal of Honor use the full capabilities of Sony console, so you can watch a suggestive, yet cinematic image of war on the screen. The strong point of the title is the soundtrack by Michael Giacchino, a composer of film music, who previously worked with Disney Interactive and DreamWorks Interactive.
