AeternoBlade II is a direct continuation of the platform action game, enriched with RPG and metroidvania elements, developed by the independent studio Corecell Technology.

Story

The action of AeternoBlade II takes place after the events told in the first part of the series. After defeating the sinister Beladim, Freyja could return to life, leading to the creation of an alternative reality. Soon afterwards, the stability of this dimension was shaken - in order to prevent its complete annihilation, the protagonist must embark on another adventure. However, Freya is not the only heroine of AeternoBlade II. At the other end of the world, Bernard and Felix cross the gates of the Fortress of Eternity to put an end to the catastrophe caused by the black hole that suddenly appeared in the sky.

Mechanics

Just like in the previous installment of the cycle, the pillar of the gameplay in AeternoBlade II is the exploration of vast and varied levels (it is worth noting that access to many locations is granted only after meeting strict conditions), solving more or less complex puzzles and fighting encountered enemies. On the battlefield we use a rather simple combat system, based on making combinations of attacks, executing counterattacks and dodging. In addition to the main story missions, a number of side quests, commissioned by Zevil and Carol, known from the first AeternoBlade, are awaiting completion.

In the course of the game, we can take control of time again, making use of the properties of a weapon wielded by the protagonist. Due to the fact that this time we are controlling three different characters, the developers have significantly expanded this aspect of the game - Freyja's sword, AeternoBlade of Past, enables us to turn back time and teleport at short distances; Bernard's halberd, AeternoBlade of Present, stops time for a short while and enables us to destroy some seemingly indestructible objects; the whip, AeternoBlade of Future, in turn, enables Felix to duplicate his character and improves exploration by being able to attach himself to environmental elements located above the hero.

We use all of this both on the battlefield and in order to deal with puzzles. As we make progress, we increase the combat potential of our proteges, gaining more powerful weapons and special relics (guaranteeing us an advantage over our opponents through passive bonuses to attack or defense), as well as gaining stronger and stronger abilities.

Technical aspects

Visuals of AeternoBlade II are much better than the graphics of the first installment - thanks to the use of the Unreal Engine 4 technology. However, the change of technology meant that developers had to abandon the original plan to release the game on PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS consoles and focus on refining the version for other platforms.
