The Silver 2425 is a compilation of two detective adventure games developed by Grasshopper Manufacture. The bundle includes a remastered version of The Silver Case (which is the debut project of the studio, originally released in 1999 for PlayStation) and a remake of 25th Ward: The Silver Case (a sequel to the above production that debuted on mobile devices in 2005). The title, available for PS4, was developed by the creators of the originals and published by Nippon Ichi Software.

Plot

The primary element of The Silver 2425 is The Silver Case, in which players are taken to the Japan of 1999, to the area called the 24 Districts. Their task is to solve the cases of a series of brutal and mysterious murders. The perpetrator’s modus operandi perfectly matches that of Kamua Uehara, a criminal responsible for many assassinations of the most important members of the Japanese government, killed several years ago by a police detective. The storylines that begin in this production are continued in The 25th Ward: The Silver Case – the story of the latter was expanded with completely new chapters.

Mechanics

The gameplay mechanics of the titles included in The Silver 2425 bundle for PS4 are based primarily on exploration of various places, gathering evidence, conversing with neutral characters in order to acquire valuable information, and solving more or less complicated puzzles. It is worth mentioning that compared to the originals, some puzzles were revamped, mostly due to the fact that their specifics were impossible to translate from Japanese into any other language.

Technical aspects

Similarly to the remastered The Silver Case, The 25th Ward: The Silver Case is powered by Unity. It let the developers modernize the graphics. Even though the two-dimensional elements were subjected only to cosmetic alterations, the scenes that take place in three-dimensional environments were created from scratch.
