Living Dark is another production of RocketWerkz, a studio founded by Dean Hall, the creator of the original DayZ. The company is known for its VR shooter Out of Ammo and the space station simulator Stationeers.

Story

The title is a narrative neo-noir adventure game. Players find themselves in a fictional metropolis of Vox, where they fight for a better tomorrow. Living Dark does not have a predetermined storyline, as it is driven by a special system that generates missions, characters and dialogues based on our previous actions. Therefore, the story is different for each player.

Mechanics

Living Dark's gameplay is a mix of elements from various genres. In general, the game is an open world adventure game, but there are many ways we can do things here. For example, we can use different combat styles to attack enemies. Those who prefer to shoot have a large arsenal of weapons at their disposal. It is also possible to combine both solutions, or not to use violence at all. Instead of engaging in close combat, you can for example hack computer systems and remotely obtain the necessary information, or quietly achieve the goals by sneaking.

However, this is only the beginning of the possibilities offered by the game. Each person living in Vox has an implanted chip containing a variety of information, including personal data, bank account number and even medical history. In this way we can obtain, for example, an access code and even steal someone's identity in order to confuse the enemies.

All our actions influence not only the course of the story, but also the world itself and its inhabitants. If, for example, we hurt someone, the injured person and his or her friends will remember it and, if necessary, they will not help us. However, if we solve several problems that afflict the NPCs, we can count on their support in difficult situations. In addition, before the mission it is worthwhile to make an interview, obtaining valuable information. To this end, we can make use of our contacts established earlier by providing help. However, the game does not impose anything and we can use all available options at our discretion.
