The fourth installment in the popular survival horror game series, which lets you play as a brave cop and fight hordes of mysterious monsters.

The story focuses on Leon S. Kennedy, an idealist police officer from Racoon City. It has been six years since the infected metropolis was wiped off the face of the Earth along with Umbrella Corporation, by the U.S. government. Kennedy, who after surviving the blood chilling events in Racoon City was promoted to a special agent, is sent on a secret mission to rescue the daughter of the American President from the kidnappers. Ashley (as the girl is named) is tracked down in Europe, where the protagonist stumbles upon unimaginable evil.

Capcom decided to refresh the series by implementing several novelties to the fourth Resident Evil. First of all, you do not fight zombies anymore, but aggressive, seemingly possessed inhabitants of a village. Whether they were infected by an unknown virus, went through some sort of a mutation, or got under the influence of a mysterious cult – this is what you will discover while playing the game and gradually learning its complex plot. Apart from bloodthirsty weirdos, Resident Evil 4 also features monks, mysterious allies, monsters from hell and other creatures.

Of course, the focus of the gameplay is still the same. Kennedy walks over the corpses of the hostile locals to achieve his goals. He uses a score of weapons for self-defense: a pistol, shotgun, grenades, hunting knife, chainsaw, flamethrower, machine rifle, rocket launcher, pitchfork, scythe, and even an old castle cannon and a catapult.

Resident Evil 4 sports improved graphics (both in terms of character models and environments). Fast-paced action is presented in TPP view, and the controls are simple and intuitive (brand new movement system). From time to time you can switch to the first person perspective (e.g. while scoping or using binoculars).

Resident Evil 4 is a survival horror that belongs to the famous Resident Evil franchise, different installments of which appeared on many consoles, including Sony Playstation, Nintendo 64, Sega Dreamcast, Sony Playstation 2, and Nintendo GameCube, as well as personal computers.

Resident Evil 4 lets you play as a brave and handsome Leon S. Kennedy, whose abilities (not as developed then) we tested in Resident Evil 2. A rookie cop at that time, now an experienced special agent – this is what Leon has become after several years between the two games. This time his job is to liberate the president’s daughter from the hands of unknown kidnappers living in a mysterious village in Europe. You will encounter many opponents, spearheaded by villagers infected with a strange virus. Apart from them, there are also many tough bosses, whose sizes or unique abilities may make your blood run cold, not to mention the incredible fight in the middle of a murky lake, in which a huge monster is trying to swallow the hero with a single clap of jaws. The game has great level design, from common houses through to massive churches and caves.

As compared to the previous Resident Evil games, gameplay went through serious changes. Its slow tempo was replaced with highly dynamic mechanics with spectacular combat and you can now freely move between locations. Situations in which you shoot down several opponents, smash a window to get inside an abandoned house, then barricade the door and climb up to the roof only to fight some more enemies, are quite common. Capcom implemented Quick Time Events in some specific actions, such as jumping through the window or dodging a charging opponent (similar solution was used in Shenmue – a hit title released on Sega Dreamcast console). There are also some puzzles that test the player’s logical thinking.

Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition is another installment in a popular survival horror series originally dedicated to GameCube and PlayStation 2 consoles, as well as personal computers. The Japanese developer prepared another port of the fourth game, designed specifically for Wii. Thanks to its backward compatibility, the console can run GC version of RE4; however, this requires additional peripherals (a game pad and a memory card). This version, on the other hand, is designed specifically for Wii, which uses the console’s Wiimote and Nunchuck.

You play as Leon Scott Kennedy, a special agent trained by the government. The protagonist travels to a village infested with mutants and other horrifying monsters. Of course, Leon can use various tools of destruction to defend himself from bloodthirsty opponents. Both firearms and melee weapons are used by doing intuitive gestures. The same is true for all other activities, therefore Wii capabilities add another dimension of immersion to Resident Evil 4.

It is noteworthy that developers implemented all extra content from PlayStation 2. First and foremost, this is the Separate Ways story mode, featuring five episodes telling about the adventures of Ada Wong. The programmers also added Amateur and Easy difficulty levels for less experienced players. In terms of graphics, this version is not much different from the previous ones; however, it now features 16:9 screen format.

Resident Evil 4: Mobile Edition is a special edition of the fourth installment in a cult survival horror game franchise owned by Capcom. This one is dedicated to mobile platforms users. Porting the game for iOS tablets and smartphones was done by Ideaworks3D, a studio specializing in converting popular titles for portable devices, such as Nokia N-Gage.

In Resident Evil 4 you play as Leon S. Kennedy, a character known from the second Resident Evil. The rookie cop from Resident Evil 2 has now become a governmental special agent, whose mission is to search and rescue the President’s daughter kidnapped on her trip to Europe. The trail leads to a grim Spanish village ruled by a sect, whose inhabitants are infected with a mysterious virus called “las plagas”. On his mission, Leon has to face bloodthirsty mutants and other challenging opponents, led by the sect’s charismatic leader – Osmund Sandler.

The story of Resident Evil 4: Mobile Edition is mostly consistent with the original version released for PC and consoles. In contrast to that versions, where the hero could freely walk between locations, here the gameplay was split into 12 separate chapters, each one introduced by a cut-scene. Typically of an action-adventure game, the title uses third person perspective and action-based combat (Leon uses firearms and melee weapons, e.g. a knife). Similarly to the original game, here as well you can meet vendors, who can sell you new weapons and useful gear for the money you collect on your way.

Aside from the story mode, the iOS version of Resident Evil 4 features Mercenaries mode, in which you fight for survival on 24 dedicated levels and have to eliminate as many opponents as you can before time runs out.
