The Bard's Tale was at the same time the first in which Michael Cranford did not participate in the production. The responsibility for the creation of the game fell on the shoulders of Brian Fargo, which unfortunately also affected its quality. Although the Thief of Fate is considered to be the weakest episode of the series, the program impresses with its breadth. The plot of the program once again throws us to the city of Skara Brae, which a brave group of heroes once freed us from the influence of the spells of sorcerer Mangar the Dark. It turns out that the settlement was razed to the ground by a mad God named Tarjan. The team intends to get the perpetrator of a disgraceful act, but before doing so, they must first perform seven special tasks, which will require time and space travel.

The Bard's Tale: Thief of Fate as usual uses the services of a proven engine, allowing you to see the world in a small window from the first person's perspective. From the significant novelties in the third installment of the cycle we will see a decently realized automaping, two new magical professions (Geomancer and Chronomancer), a mass of premiere spells, nearly five hundred species of monsters and over eighty dungeons to explore, which beats on the head of both predecessors taken together. The authors also decided to make life easier for users by implementing the option of recording the state of the game at any time.

Thief of Fate this is the most difficult part of the series, not only because of the numerous battles with monsters. The game contains a huge number of demanding puzzles, which are intended rather for advanced users. Admittedly, beginner heroes can take part in the game (the character creation system has not changed in comparison to the predecessors), but there is a better chance for daredevils who have already taken part in the battle against two wizards beforehand.
