The years 1999-2001 were recognized by fans of Star Trek as the golden times of games embedded in this universe. It was then that a number of simulators and strategies referring to the hits of the big and small screen were created. Activision decided to take advantage of the record-breaking Star Trek series: The Next Generation and serve players a cosmic RTS, where they could direct the actions of Captain Picard and the USS Enterprise-E crew.

Action Star Trek: Armada was imprisoned after the end of the wars with Dominion. The alliance of the United Federation of Planets, the Clingolan and Romulan Empire can soon enjoy peace and quiet. Unexpectedly, the USS Preminition ship attacked by Borg units arrives from the future. Captain Jean-Luc Picard, who was in a hurry to help, learns about plans for an invasion that could destroy the factions that form an alliance.

The extensive feature layer of Star Trek's solo campaign: Armada is undoubtedly one of the game's greatest assets. The story is presented in five chapters. In the first four players have the opportunity to take control of individual races: people, clingons, romulans and even borgas. In the last chapter, an alliance of three factions has to face an invasion.

Each nation has 6 types of units with different applications, properties or armament. The game features a number of ships well known to the fans of the series, including USS Enterprise-E, Bird of Prey and Borg Cube.

As befits a classic RTS, resource management is at the heart of the game. In Star Trek: Armada are the dilithium (a currency type mineral) and population. The latter is particularly valuable. Any depletion of the crew of spacecraft affects their combat parameters.

Developers from Activision have made sure that the environment in which the battles at Star Trek: Armada take place is not empty. In space, fleets may come across, for example, clusters of meteorites. Properly used astral bodies can be a valuable help in combat (providing additional protection, for example), in other cases they pose a serious threat.

The Storm3D graphic engine is responsible for the visual setting of the game. It generates a high quality, three-dimensional image. Animations of the movement of units also look good. At the time of its premiere, Star Trek: Armada was considered to be the most beautiful strategy embedded in this universe.

Multiplayer mode is not particularly complex. It allows up to 4 players to take control of each faction and fight battles with each other.
