As with previous versions of the series, Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes is a mix of arcade elements with a high dose of action, intertwined on the battlefield with skillful command of units. Behind the development of this game are employees of the Blueside studio, who in the past developed such positions as Shining Legend or Princess and the Knight.

Plot

The action in Heroes was set before the events from Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders and is a feature supplement for the whole series. The game develops in detail the side threads omitted from the previous versions of the series, with particular emphasis on developing the history of supporting characters. As we once again fight between the forces of the Covenant and the Dark Legions, we discover events that bring us closer to the fate of characters well known from The Crusaders such as Rupert and Ellen.

Mechanics

As in The Crusaders, the gameplay is based on passing through a series of campaigns, the end of which depends on the previously chosen side of the conflict. In addition to a separate storyline, each faction has its own unique heroes, who under our control will effectively thin the ranks of the enemy.

The action in Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes can be seen from many perspectives. Although the game by default offers us a top-down view, nothing stands in the way of adjusting the camera position to our needs. The possibility of changing the perspective is particularly important, because in addition to our active participation in the struggle on the battlefield, we have the opportunity to control units fighting in battle. The way the game is played in Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes can be divided into two important aspects. The first of these is the previously mentioned taking command of the allied units, which will allow us to have more control over the situation during the skirmish. In addition to units such as infantry, archers and cavalry, we can summon elite troops or heroes to the battlefield, who thanks to their special skills can change the fate of a battle already lost. It is worth remembering that specific units have a certain effectiveness in fighting against every kind of enemy. For example, a squad armed with pikes will easily break up the cavalry charge, and firing units can eliminate flying formations without much difficulty. Additional factors to consider are the atmospheric conditions on the battlefield, the skilful use of which can weaken or temporarily exclude some of the enemy troops from active combat.

The second aspect of the game is the ability to take control of one of the heroes in the center of the battle. As with the previous part of the series, we can thin the ranks of the enemy with our own hands, using a wide range of available punches and their various combinations. Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes went one step further, however, by adding many new characters to the game, as well as expanding the existing ones. The arcade element of the gameplay plays a much more important role in this version than the strategic aspect, although it is not able to completely replace it.

Technical aspects

Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes is a game framed in classic old school three-dimensional graphics. The character models, both heroes and individuals, are well designed. The entire gameplay is complemented by an energizing soundtrack characterized by a strong, metal sound.
