Prince of Persia: Warrior Within

Sequel to the 2003’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, rebooting the story of the hero from the classic 2D platformer from Broderbund Software studio. This time the prince has to deal with consequences of his reckless actions. He managed to turn back time and prevent releasing The Sands of Time, but he did not change his destiny, resulting in Guardian of Time chasing him to seal his fate. He travels to the mysterious island where, according to the legends, the Sands were made; the prince attempts to change the past and prevent their creation, thus saving himself from the fate. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within has a much darker atmosphere, but the gameplay is similar to its predecessor. Our hero must overcome many obstacles and traps, not to mention enemies. Game introduces a new, expanded fighting system, with prince himself becoming stronger and gaining new abilities.

A sequel to the excellent Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time by many considered the best action game of the year 2003. The second part introduces some important changes, while bringing back the basic gameplay mechanics unchanged.

This time the Prince has to fight with his own fate. A wise man told him that he is about to die. Soon it turns out that the Prince is being hunted by Dahaka, an immortal incarnation of the fate. The main hero embarks on a perilous journey to an accursed island. The atmosphere of this game is much darker than its predecessor’s. The Prince has to face his worst fears. On his way he encounters hordes of bloodthirsty monsters.

The gameplay proper resembles the previous part of PoP. The Prince faces environmental obstacles, solves more or less complex puzzles, avoids traps, and fights. This last element went through significant changes. The game uses a new combat mechanics called Free-Form Fighting System. It gives more freedom in using the environment and the opponents themselves for more effective combat. The Prince is also much stronger, has new fighting tricks and uses a whole arsenal of weapons. The sequel also lets players hurt enemies over a distance. The Dagger of Time, present in the previous part, went through slight modifications too, gaining some new functions.

The game is longer than The Sands of Time. Along with in-game progress, the player is rewarded with unique extras. The graphics went through little improvements. The most noticeable is the dark stylistics of locations, matching the overall game atmosphere.

A sequel to Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which just as its predecessor is a dynamic action-adventure game. This time the Prince has to face his own fate, as his life is threatened by Dahaka, an incarnation of the unchangeable fate. The perilous journey (which is in fact an attempt to escape from death) takes the hero on an accursed island.

Most of gameplay mechanics remained unchanged – you still run and jump traversing in-game levels, avoid tricky traps, use different mechanisms, etc. The game’s atmosphere is much darker than of the previous part’s. The prince looks more mature and the locations he visits are ominous (old gardens, a graveyard of ships, a Persian boat, a huge castle, etc.).

Combat got much more emphasized than previously. Bloodthirsty monsters and enemies stand on the Prince’s way, whom you eliminate using a new Free-Form Fighting System (combines strikes into combos, you can even snatch enemy weapons from their hands). Besides, the creators modified the system of attacks over a distance – you can throw swords at enemies.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within has smooth animation at 60 frames per second and excellent visual effects (you just cannot help but notice the Prince’s vivid mimics while fighting and melee weapon trails adding to overall dynamics). This new adventures of the Prince are accompanied by an atmospheric soundtrack perfectly fitting what is currently happening on the screen.
