High Seas Trader is an economic game that will allow you to play the role of captain of a sailing ship, sailing on the seas and ratings in the stormy 17th century. In many ways, there are associations with the cult Pirates! Sida Meiera, although in comparison with that production we do not deal with buccaneering here, but trade.

We start the game by choosing the flag under which we will sail. Five nations are available: England, France, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands. Then we are thrown into one of the ports scattered all over the world and we take the right part of the game, i.e. trading. High Seas Trader offers up to fifteen raw materials that can be transported from place to place. The player has a wide range of statistics, allowing you to determine in which port you can buy the best and in which port you can sell. Before going on your first trip, it is advisable to carefully analyze the trade routes and choose the one that brings the greatest income at the least cost. In addition to traditional sailors, we can also enlist trainees and soldiers on duty. The latter will be useful in the fight against our hostile country's ships and pirates, sailing in crowds all over the world's waters. As with Pirates!, the morale of the crew is an extremely important factor, which is constantly falling on long voyages. Luckily, in port taverns you can try to have fun, although this is not a cheap expense.

When replenishing the cargo space with new goods, it is also worth remembering to provide basic goods, without which the crew will starve to death. You will find here not only food, but also rum or water. The ship's captain is free to decide on the use of these goods by applying to the crew large or small enough allowances. Before the voyage it is also worth to think about checking the technical condition of the ship. It may turn out that necessary repairs are required, e.g. sailing.

During the cruise we observe the action from the perspective of the first person and we control the ship ourselves. If the player does not want to be tedious in driving the ship, he can always use the services of the first officer who will lead the ship along a pre-planned route. Swimming on the seas and assessments is very dangerous. The obstacle is not only the weather, but also enemy units that will want to send us to the bottom. Part of the battle is as important as steering the ship during the voyage - if we do not take care of proper defense, we may not reach our destination.

Although the High Seas Trader puts economic elements first, it is in the same spirit as Pirates! Sida Meier. No matter how hard the life of a merchant is going on, we have to take care of the welfare of the crew on many different levels. Excellent audio-visual setting, which is a decent addition to the content makes it an excellent position for sailing enthusiasts, regardless of whether we are scared away by the economic motif or not.
