It includes, among other things, shooters (e.g. Call of Duty and Battlefield series) and action-adventure games (Tomb Raider). First and third person perspective (FPP/TPP) is used. In most cases we are playing as a character who has to defeat some enemies and reach a specific point. We can use a wide range of weapons, including pistols, rocket launchers, swords, knives and like. Action-adventure is a particular category within action games genre. Another installment in the popular action-adventure game series by Nintendo, and also the first game in the series for WiiU. In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you play once again as the main character of the franchise, Link, who gets involved in yet another exciting and dangerous adventure as he tries to learn what led to the downfall of the land of Hyrule. The gameplay is a combination of several genres: adventure, action RPG, and even survival. During the game, you explore the open world, solve puzzles and fight enemies; the combat is arcade-like and requires you to use varied tactics. You also have to gather resources in order to prepare food and drink, which affect your abilities, just like pieces of equipment.

A continuation of a multiplayer-focused TPP shooter from 2015, developed for the Nintendo Switch console. Splatoon 2’s gameplay follows its predecessor and lets the players control Inklings – joyful human octopuses who fight using paint-based weapons. Those can be used not only to attack opponents, but also to paint the map – which is one of game’s objectives and allows increased movement speed and faster ammo regeneration. Major novelties include e.g. new weapons (Splat Dualities), moves (Dodge Roll) and heroes (including refreshed versions of the old crew). Controls have been adjusted to both Joy-Con and Pro Controller (a more classic gamepad). It is important to note that in both cases the players can use gyroscope, which is useful for aiming.

Hollow Knight is a 2D metroidvania game developed by the indie studio Team Cherry. The game takes us to a fantasy underground world located bellow the city of Dirtmouth. The place attracts numerous adventurers, who disappear without a trace when they enter it. We play as an adventurer who decides to face the challenge and find riches, fame, and the answers he is looking for in that underground world. The game is presented from a side-scrolling perspective. Gameplay focuses on the exploration of vast locations, leveling and progressing our character, finding more and more powerful equipment, and fighting with the encountered enemies. During our exploration of the underworld, we will find not only many traps and dangers awaiting us, but also some friendly NPCs that will aid us with their knowledge or useful items.

A sandbox game that defies classification, developed by the independent Mojang AB studio. Minecraft has been developed with the intention of unleashing the creativity of players, who can freely change the game's virtual world made from voxels (cubic blocks). The gameplay concentrates on terrain transformations, building structures, crafting items, and creating your own adventures. The game consists of two modes: a classic one, which allows for unending experience, and survival, in which we have to prepare to fend off monster assaults at night. In addition to single player, Minecraft also offers online multiplayer. The game from Mojang AB is distinguished by its unique retro visuals.

Developed by THQ Nordic, Sine Mora EX is a remastered version of the well-received 2012’s shoot’em up game. The game takes players to a retro-futuristic world engulfed in continuous war between the forces of the Empire and their adversaries. One gets to pilot diverse airplanes, featuring various weapons and gadgets, and participate in dynamic and spectacular battles against both minor enemy units as well as much more powerful bosses. Sine Mora EX builds on the story campaign comprising seven stages – unlike the second game mode (Arcade), during the campaign players can modify the specifications of particular machines to adequately prepare them for the mission at hand. The game described herein delivers high-quality visuals – a player is bound to appreciate boss models developed by Mahiro Maeda, one of the most popular Japanese anime artist.

Another game from Traveller's Tales, featuring the highly-popular LEGO bricks. Unlike the previous installments in the series, this time the game doesn’t take us to any movie or comic book universe. LEGO Worlds was designed as a multiplayer virtual playground, in which the gameplay is focused on creating our own constructions and exploring thus created brick world with other players. The game is a classic sandbox reminiscent of the popular Minecraft, giving us complete freedom to shape the world around us. Players can meet and interact in various ways, as well as take part in a variety of adventures. The game also provides a whole range of popular brick vehicles, and hostile characters with whom we often have to fight. The entire production features a colorful visual style characteristic for the whole series.

A sequel to the first-person online shooter PayDay: The Heist from 2012. Both games were developed by Overkill Software in co-operation with Starbreeze AG. Players become members of a gang that specializes in bank heists, kidnapping, and drugs transportation. The main campaign consists of six dangerous jobs, offered via the CRIMENET system. The creators of PayDay 2 took special care to diversify the missions – as some mission elements are random, no two playthroughs are exactly the same. Just as in the first game, gameplay puts emphasis on the cooperation of up to four players. The game's impressive visuals are powered by Diesel Engine 2.0.

Another installment in the popular series of third-person perspective action games that uses the license of the popular LEGO bricks franchise. This time, the title is available exclusively on Nintendo platforms. The game takes place in a modern metropolis and its main protagonist, Chase McCain, is an undercover cop. His task is to find, infiltrate, and stop criminal operations, which he does in-style, Hollywood style. Gameplay mechanics in LEGO City: Undercover combine the most important features of the LEGO series with elements typical of the Grand Theft Auto and Driver series. The overall feeling of the game is strongly inspired by classic action movies. The gameplay is a mix of various genres and during the game the player will participate in spectacular car chases, fly a police helicopter, chase after suspects on rooftops, and engage enemies in fist fights. The controls are simple and intuitive and the game provides us with many opportunities to employ the unique capabilities of Nintendo consoles and their controllers.

The final edition of a 2013’s popular platform game created by Ubisoft. In Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition, released exclusively on Nintendo Switch, players get to follow the adventures of Rayman, who, accompanied by Globox and the Teensies, begins a long and dangerous journey through the unknown, once again taking the fate of the entire world on his shoulders. With the action presented from a side perspective, the game allows players to explore consecutive locations, jump between platforms, avoid the omnipresent traps, and acquire new skills – keeping all this as the gameplay mechanics’ core. The acquired skills can be further utilized to reach seemingly inaccessible areas. Rayman Legends Definitive Edition features colorful and masterfully polished 2D visuals with a distinctive cartoonish style. In comparison to the original release, the Definitive Edition distinguishes itself through the additional content available only on Nintendo Switch.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie Video Game is a platform action game released along with The LEGO Ninjago Movie. Just like the previous LEGO games, it was developed by Traveller's Tales. Story in The LEGO Ninjago Movie Video Game is based on the film’s plot. The evil Lord Garmadon brought the Ninjago City to its knees. Lead by the wise Master Wu, a group of fearless warriors decides to face Garmadon and bring peace and order back to the city. As we play, we explore various parts of the Ninjago City, use our heroes’ unique abilities when fighting with enemies, and solve simple environmental riddles and puzzles. The game can be played alone or in coop with up to three additional players. The LEGO Ninjago Movie Video Game's visuals are on a decent level and stylistically refer to the film.

Developed by Marvelous AQL, another installment of the third-person perspective action games subseries of the Fate franchise, which after a longer break returns to gaming consoles. The action of Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star takes place after events from Fate/EXTRA. As the previous war comes to an end, the supercomputer Moon Cell Automaton takes over the world and sends the players to a digital kingdom known as SE.RA.PH., where they have to fight one more battle for freedom. Mechanics slightly resemble productions from the Dynasty Warriors series. During gameplay you control one of 16 characters known as Servants – there are both some new and old characters. Each of the aforementioned figures possesses unique, great powers that you can use in combat with tens (or even hundreds) of enemies at the same time. In contrast to the other titles in the franchise, representing either jRPG or visual novel genres, this production features fast and spectacular action in the form of a hack-and-slash.

A classic 2D shoot'em up action game, created by Vertex Pop and released on Nintendo Switch. Graceful Explosion Machine allows players to fly a futuristic space ship. The titular GEM is an advanced, well-equipped vehicle whose pilot is stuck deep in space. In order to find his way back he must face a horde of aggressive Aliens. The game is presented from a side view and we must constantly move right throughout more than 30 levels located in four different worlds. Our main goal is to eliminate the subsequent enemy hordes which can be done by using four different types of weapons: blaster, rocket launcher, energy sword and sniper beam. The key to success is to be able to change your weapons accordingly to a situation, perform dodges and counterattacks.

An unusual cooking action game co-developed by Ghost Town Games and Team 17 Software. The action of Overcooked takes place in an alternative, comedic reality; specifically in the realm known as The Onion Kingdom, which is on the verge of doom in the face of an incoming ancient evil. Luckily, as it turns out, the vile threat can be simply eaten; to cook it, however, the best chefs are needed, so players assume their roles. During gameplay you face a series of difficult challenges requiring you to prepare a variety of dishes while sticking to the recipe and delivering the right ingredients to the correct spots. To make things more difficult, the pace is fast and the kitchen is filled with many moving elements and traps that you have to skilfully avoid. Apart from the single player mode, the title features multiplayer in which cooks can cooperate or compete with each other.

Fire Emblem Warriors is a spin-off of the popular jRPG series Fire Emblem that was released on Nintendo Switch. The game that was created by Omega Force and Nintendo is quite different from what we could see in the series' previous installments. Instead of a turn-based tactical RPG, we get a fantasy slasher that uses the series' characteristic elements and characters and adds only a couple of RPG elements. In terms of gameplay, Fire Emblem Warriors uses mechanics similar to those from the Dynasty Warriors game series.

The Mummy Demastered is a metroidvania game developed by WayForward Technologies. The game is based on the license of the 2017 film The Mummy. We play as the agent of Prodigium, an organization that tries to stop the undead army summoned by the Egyptian princess Ahmanet, the titular mummy. Gameplay focuses on going right, shooting our enemies, and avoiding traps and other threats. As we play, we will explore dark forests, military bases, and streets of London covered in sand. In combat, we use a wide range of firearms. Along with your typical, weaker monsters we will have to defeat powerful bosses from time to time. The Mummy Demastered has old-school, pixelart visuals.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Master Trials for is the first expansion for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild that was developed by Nintendo. It is a typical game expansion that does not introduce any major changes to gameplay mechanics. Nintendo focused on adding new content to the game and, by doing so, prolonging our adventures in Hyrule. The biggest introduction that comes with the expansion is the new adventure called Trials of the Sword. It takes us to small maps where we do not have access to our previously gathered equipment and have to fight with waves of enemies. We get new pieces of equipment and useful items by defeating our enemies and exploring our surroundings. Doing so will prepare us for fights with more powerful opponents. Master Trials also introduces a new difficulty level called Master Mode In terms of new items, this add-on introduces one new mask and eight armor sets.

The fourth full-fledged installment in a best-selling action series Metroid Prime, owned by Nintendo. Metroid Prime 4 is the first one designed for Nintendo Switch. The game’s protagonist is Samus Aran – interstellar bounty huntress fighting with Space Pirates. After the events presented in the previous game, the heroine gets entangled in another intrigue, which forces her to embark on another dangerous journey. In the game we go through vast, nonlinear levels and fight the opponents we encounter – all that is realized in first-person shooter mechanics. The heroine has not only got a diverse arsenal of energy rifles, but also a wide range of special skills. One of them is Morph Ball, which allows her to reach hardly accessible places. Thanks to such mechanics, challenges the player faces in Metroid Prime 4 are not only arcade in nature but logical as well.

An action game with numerous RPG elements. Similar to its predecessor, it is a spin-off title in the Dragon Quest franchise by Square Enix, and although it retains a similar atmosphere, it offers several new solutions. The plot of Dragon Quest Heroes II references the events of its predecessor. Despite the lack of any direct links to the core Dragon Quest productions, there are a few familiar faces to see here. As befits a hack and slash game, Dragon Quest Heroes II focuses on quick and spectacular combat. The player fights hordes of enemies who would pose no threat in a one-on-one fight but can be dangerous in larger numbers. Moreover, from time to time, the protagonist faces powerful bosses; to defeat them, it is necessary to use more advanced tactic. Although the game focuses on arcade hand-to-hand combat, it does not lack a complex plot and script. Dragon Quest Heroes II offers three-dimensional graphics which resemble Japanese manga and anime stylistics.

A dynamic action game, in which you play as the eponymous hero possessing supernatural powers. His task is to break into one of the most secure facilities in the world and discover the secrets hidden within. Mr. Shifty utilizes a top-down perspective. The gameplay focuses on eliminating hordes of enemies — the protagonist can phase through walls, teleport himself away to dodge attacks, and slow down time. The enemies can be killed not only by dealing them a lethal blow or by throwing an object at them, but also e.g. by forcing open a door when the enemy is standing right behind it. The game has a high difficulty level (everything happens quickly and both the opponents and you can die from just one shot) and features pleasant and colorful comic-book-like visuals, as well as a dynamic electronic soundtrack.

Dragon Quest Heroes I & II for Nintendo Switch is a collection of two third-person hack-and-slash games and Dragon Quest series spin-offs developed by Omega Force. Both games are 3D hack-and-slash titles, very similar to the Dynasty Warriors series in terms of gameplay. As we play, we will explore enormous open locations and fight with hordes of enemies. The available heroes have different attacks and special abilities. They can block and evade attacks, which comes in handy when facing the gigantic bosses that require from the players a bit more tactical approach. The Nintendo Switch versions of the games previously released on PlayStation include all DLCs and exclusive content, and brand new characters and scenarios.
