Super Mario Odyssey
Arcade 27 October 2017
Super Mario Odyssey is a 3D platform game developed for Nintendo Switch and another installment of the Mario video game franchise. In Super Mario Odyssey, the titular plumber has to saved his beloved Princess Peach, who this time faces a forced marriage with the game's main antagonist, Bowser. The game takes place not only in the typical for the series fairy-tale land, but also in the alternative version of the real world. In terms of mechanics, Super Mario Odyssey is a natural evolution of the series. We get a 3D platformer where we explore various locations using Mario's acrobatic abilities, gather items, avoid traps, and fight with the encountered enemies and bosses. Super Mario Odyssey comes with some new elements, like bigger locations or a more sandbox-like nature of the game that gives us more freedom of exploration. Mario's hat also has some interesting properties and gives us access to many unique abilities.
Arcade 07 November 2017
Another installment in the popular platform game series by SEGA. The game was developed by Sonic Team, the creators of Sonic Generations and Sonic Colors. Once again, you play as the eponymous super-fast hedgehog, and your task is to lead the resistance and face the evil Doctor Eggman and his army of giant robots. Sonic Forces utilizes the third person perspective. Like in the previous games of the franchise, you traverse the maps full of obstacles and enemies, and collect golden rings. The biggest attraction of the game is undoubtedly the most characteristic feature of the brand - the speed. The protagonist moves so fast that sometimes you may not be able to discern what is happening on screen. The game also features an option to summon alternative versions of Sonic and to control several of them at once — it is the only way to deal with challenges, which are too much for just one Sonic.
Terraria: Otherworld is the second part of the popular sandbox platform game, developed by Andrew Spinks and his independent studio Re-Logic. In the game, referred to as “two dimensional Minecraft”, we are given the ability to shape a randomly generated world without restrictions and to create a number of useful tools, utility objects and structures via its crafting system. Terraria 2 has a similar, old-school layout and similar mechanics as the original, but the game features also a huge number of changes and innovations that were not implemented by the author in the first installment of the series. First of all, players were given an infinite number of worlds at their disposal, each representing a different biome, e.g. woodland, arctic, desert, or lunar. Furthermore, character development system, object finding and creation, as well as the interface of the game, were modified. The game traditionally focuses on cooperation of many players, what allows them to collectively raise buildings or fight encountered monsters.
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown
An arcade flight simulator and continuation of the popular series published by Bandai Namco. Like its predecessors, Ace Combat 7 is set in alternative timeline, in which there are different countries, and humans have constructed unique flying units. Game focuses on the story, which we learn both through events during missions and many cutscenes. The gameplay is mostly arcade, with only a few simulation’s features. Due to that, realism has to move over and make space for dynamic and eye-catching sky fights, including battles with powerful bosses. Each available plane flies slightly differently, resulting in a more varied experience. Ace Combat 7 offers a story campaign for one player and multiplayer mode. Developers made use of Unreal Engine 4 and also added support of PlayStation VR goggles.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Oddworld: Soulstorm is another game in the popular platform-adventure game series developed by Oddworld Inhabitants Inc. and Frima Studio. The game is a direct sequel to Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty, a 2013 remake of Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, and is loosely based on Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus. Once again, we control Abe, a friendly Mudokon who managed to escape from the Glukkon's grip, and now leads three hundred of rescued Mudokons into the unknown. Our hero and his companions travel across the endless desert and face shortages of food and water. They find relief in a certain addicting brew. Gameplay in Oddworld: Soulstorm did not change that much since the first 2013 New ‘n’ Tasty. It is still a 2.5D platform-adventure game where we have to rely on Abe's and his fellow Mudokons' abilities. The game, however, is a bit darker in terms of stylistics.
Arcade 30 November 2017
A side-scrolling platformer based on classic premise and created as a result of a cooperation between the independent Fully Illustrated studio and the Darkwind Media company. The player is taken to 120 AD, when the forces of the Roman Empire invade the southern part of Britain. The player assumes the role of a fearless warrior by the name of Caradok, who decides to face the attackers on his own and violently ask them to leave. The player will explore eight extensive levels set in different environments, such as ancient forests, mountain streams, or Roman defense walls. The protagonist moves to the right throughout the game, eliminating hordes of enemies using a sword and a shield, as well as his fists and head. The visuals are slightly caricatural and cartoonish; the visual style features exaggerated character models and a large portion of brutality.
Super Lucky's Tale
Arcade 07 November 2017
Super Lucky’s Tale is a 3D platform game developed by Playful Corporation, creators of the series’ previous installment, Lucky’s Tale. We play as the titular fox Lucky who, together with his sister, tries to recover the Book of Ages stolen by the evil Jinks. Super Lucky's Tale is in many ways similar to other 3D platformers like Yooka-Laylee or Rayman series. Gameplay focuses on exploration of various locations. Lucky is an agile fox that can jump, move object from one place to another, climb, and dig in the ground. We use his abilities to move around the game’s locations, bypass obstacles, solve simple riddles, and collect gold coins. Action is presented from a third-person perspective, but the game offers a special side-scrolling level with challenges where our adventures are presented like in old-school platform games. Super Lucky's Tale was released as a part of the Xbox Play Anywhere programme – if you buy a digital copy of the game on Xbox One, you get its Windows 10 edition for free (and vice-versa).
The Last Night
A cyberpunk platformer with adventure elements. Developed by Odd Tales, it's the company's first commercial production, developed from a free title that has won Cyberpunk Jam 2014. The action of The Last Night is set in a futuristic, open city divided into four areas of different appearance and atmosphere, which influences gameplay. You assume the role of a spy hired by private employers who give you such tasks as stealing cars or killing particular people. The city is filled with cameras and patrols, so in order to succeed, you need to sneak, avoid raising suspicion, look for alternative paths, and hack various computer networks. Chatting with NPCs is also an efficient way of getting the job done – the characters dynamically react to the player’s actions.
Guns, Gore & Cannoli 2
Arcade December 2017
Guns, Gore & Cannoli 2 is a sequel to the 2015 game Guns, Gore & Cannoli. Both games were developed by the Belgian studio Crazy Monkey. Once again, we play as the mobster Vinni Cannoli. Fifteen years have passed since the Thugtown city massacre. Mysterious affairs from the past have forced our protagonist to go to Europe, right in the middle of the Second World War. There, we will have to deal with our problems in the most traditional way – killing everything and everyone in our way. Our job is to get from one end of the map to another, eliminating our enemies along the way. We will be facing gangsters, soldiers, zombies, and mutants. Vinnie’s skills and abilities come in handy when doing our job. He can use all sorts of firearms (shotguns, riffles, pistols, etc.), do a double jump, kick, roll, or use two guns at the same time. We can also use elements of the environment to eliminate our enemies.
Shovel Knight: King of Cards
The last expansion to a well-received game titled Shovel Knight. Both the add-on and the base game have been developed by Yacht Club Games. The main protagonist of the expansion is the titular King of Cards, who is one of the bosses a player has to fight as the Shovel Knight in the base game. The main protagonist has to prove his rights to the crown by defeating three usurpers from the neighboring lands. Similarly to the base game, Shovel Knight: King of Cards is a 2D platform game with RPG elements. The new hero fights and moves in a different manner than the previous protagonists - he mounts a short charge, which stuns the enemies and destroys some of the obstacles on the map. He also has a special ability - he can perform a pirouette on enemies' heads multiple times. As one progresses through the story, he acquires more powerful weapons, armor, and new companions. An interesting element of the game is the minigame, in which one can play cards with NPCs. The gameplay revolves around the story campaign, which is well complemented by special challenges, in which one can test his skills in platform puzzles as well as combat.
Battle Princess Madelyn
A two-dimensional platform game developed by the independent studio Causal Bit Games (the creators of Insanity’s Blade that was released in 2014). During the game the player controls princess Madelyn who was forced to fight evil in order to save the kingdom and her family. The gameplay of Battle Princess Madelyn relates to classic titles like Ghosts ’n Goblins and Ghouls ‘n Ghosts. The game focuses on the agility of the player, making him escape traps and jump between platforms while fighting skeletons, demons and big bosses. At the beginning of the game Madelyn lacks any armor and powerful weapons, but she is accompanied by the ghost of a dead dog named Fritzy. After some time the pair gains new weapons and better powers that enable them to, among other things, shoot fire. The levels hide many secrets, including hidden areas. The game also features two versions of soundtrack – one references 8-bit consoles and another is a modern version of it.
An arcade multiplayer game with MOBA elements. Switchblade has been developed by Lucid Games, a studio comprising the creators of Project Gotham Racing series. The game takes a player into the future, in which he assumes the role of a participant of futuristic sports matches. During each match, a player gets to drive one of the available vehicles and together with other players is tasked with destroying the opponents’ towers. In order to do this, one can utilize diversified features of his machines - some of them to fix, others to deal damage, etc. Moreover, during the game, small robots called mobs appear on the map to distract and attack the enemies. These robots should be protected, as they are the key to success. Nonetheless, one has to destroy the enemy mobs. Switchblade has been based on Unreal Engine, the same technology utilized in the production of Gears of War 4. The game is available free-to-play.
Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV
Arcade 21 November 2017
A spin-off of Final Fantasy XV, released in 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, utilizing the PlayStation VR gear. The production was developed by Square Enix. Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV resembles a fishing simulation game, in which the characters known from the standalone installment—Noctis Lucis Caelum, Gladiolus Amicitia, Ignis Stupeo Scientia and Prompto Argentum—roam the world in seach of the eponymous beast. The gameplay focuses on fishing, which means you have to use bat and fight with the fish trying to break the line. After a successful hunt, you can rest by the fire and eat some fresh fried fish, while listening to the NPC talk.
LocoRoco 2 Remastered
Arcade 12 December 2017
The remastered edition of LocoRoco2, a popular arcade game originally released on PlayStation Portable. Like the remastered edition of the first installment, LocoRoco 2 Remastered features, above all, refreshed visuals and controls system adapted to the gyroscopic features of DualShock 4 controller. In LocoRoco 2 Remastered, the player assumes the role of a merry yellow ball, which travels through the colorful locations and feeds on fruit to increase its size. To push the ball forward, a player has to tilt the controller in order to mimic the gravity. At any given time, the main protagonist can be split into smaller balls so as to squeeze through some tight spots. Using this technique, and combining it with platform jumping, players have to traverse diverse locations, discover secret levels and avoid the obstacles. LocoRoco 2 Remastered features a new resolution adjusted to TV screens, while keeping the visuals intact – the game still features simple, yet very colorful 2D graphics.
Genital Jousting is an unusual party game developed by Free Lives and published by Devolver Digital. We take part in various minigames, with up to eight players in local or online mulitplayer mode. What is unusual about the game is that we are controlling flaccid penises with wiggly anuses. Our "protagonist" can be dressed up in various clothes which will make him somewhat unique and easy to distinguish among the other "characters" controlled by the rest of the players. Our goal is to penetrate our opponents' genitals and at the same time avoid being penetrated. However, that is not the only thing to do in Genital Jousting. The game offers a couple of different minigames, like racing, herding the dachshunds, or unusual football. Due to the erotic themes, the game is for adults only.

A compilation of two games developed by an independent British studio, Puppy Games, now re-released on PlayStation consoles. The package contains Titan Attacks! and Revenge of the Titans – two titles previously released on PC in 2011 and 2012 respectively. The first game is a two-dimensional retro shooter, heavily inspired by the classic Space Invaders. We assume the role of a commander of the last tank on Earth, and our objective is to save the planet from invading hordes of aliens. Revenge of the Titans is a classic tower defense title – the player builds various defensive structures which are to repel continuous waves of attacking enemies. Both games return with a reworked interface, and are now running in 60 frames per second. As could be expected, the controls have been remapped to fit a console gamepad (or PS Vita buttons).
Another entry in a classic series of, so called, tunnel shooters which is set in science fiction world. The game was developed by Llamasoft, leaded by Jeff Minter who, back in 1994, also created a remake of the original arcade version of Tempest for Atari Jaguar. Just like in the previous games from this series, this one is also about controlling a "claw-shaped" space ship that moves in tunnels that are similar to a spider web. The gameplay focuses on eliminating enemies, avoiding bullets and getting best results by increasing our points. To make the gameplay more interesting we can collect weapons and power-ups but, in addition to that, the game gets faster with each level. Also we can encounter more and more challenging enemies. In terms of graphics, Tempest 4000 uses the same vector technology that was used in the previous games but it also uses the newest game developing techniques and particle effects.

The game uses the engine and technology from the fifth main entry in the Persona series. The game features a few dozen of tracks from Persona 5, some of which are remixes created by various artists. The developers also included some completely new songs as a bonus.

This time he is taken to a miniature world filled with challenges requiring both skill and logic, as well as many gold coins to collect. Yoshi is a classic platformer with side view, with our hero running, jumping and throwing eggs at enemies or environmental objects. Interestingly, the camera can be changed at any moment to look at the level from another perspective. This can be used to discover new paths and many surprises, and each level can be completed in two ways. The game can be completed in cooperation split-screen mode for two players. Visually, Yoshi uses box-like miniature dioramas, resembling Paper Mario series.

Our score is then published on worldwide online rankings when we can comper our times with the achievements of other players. The game has cartoonish visuals and lots of dark humour in it. Super Meat Boy: Forever has many references to other games, i.e. unlockable characters from various indie productions.
Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom

To achieve that, you have to complete a range of levels and use the protagonist's unusual powers, which allow him to change into five kinds of beings — you use their abilities both when fighting enemies and solving puzzles. Although Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom references popular 1980s platform games, there are also role-playing elements. The game features oldschool 2D visuals, resembling legendary 16-bit productions.
