A side-scrolling jRPG with strong elements of classic beat'em ups. Fallen Legion was developed by an American studio YummyYummyTummy. The game came out for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita; the two versions differ mainly in terms of the story. Fallen Legion is set in a fantasy world and the player is taken to the Kingdom of Fenumia, which loses its glory because of the king's premature death. His daughter (the protagonist in the PS4 version), tries to cope with the problem and goes on a long and dangerous journey in order to bring peace and safety to her subjects. This is obviously noticed by Legatus Laendur (the protagonist in the PSV version), who's lust for power makes him try to take control over Fenumia. The core of the experience is constituted by fighting enemies in a real-time combat system. The key to success is to make a good use of the individual abilities of the controlled characters, apart from being able to skillfully combine attacks of the entire team into complex combos; however, having quick reflexes is also needed. Furthermore, the player has to make more and less important decisions many times - those influence the course of the story and what the game world looks like. All of this is complemented by eye-pleasing, hand-painted 2D visuals.

The Banner Saga (PSV)
Inspired by the Nordic mythology, a cRPG developed by the independent studio Stoic, whose members worked on, for example, Star Wars: The Old Republic. The action takes us to a world where fratricidal bloodshed between the gods led to chaos and wars. This is an "on the road" type of story, divided into two main plot branches, telling the stories of two Viking parties trying to escape from the threat posed by a mysterious, stone-like race called the Dredge, born as the result of gods’ experiments. Set in fantasy realities, the gameplay combines adventure and RPG elements with a turn-based combat system. With game's progress, your party gains experience and becomes more and more powerful. Also, the decisions you make will exert heavy influence on the plot. The game features amazing 2D graphics, employing art style similar to that of Walt Disney productions.
RPG 07 April 2015
An action RPG developed by Supergiant Games - a studio established by Amir Rao and Gavin Simon, who both are former employees of Electronic Arts. In the game, a player assumes the role of a hero named Kidd, who one day wakes up in his bed drifting amongst the remains of the world, in which he used to live before. The young lad embarks on a journey to find other survivors and provide them with shelter. The world of Bastion that is drifting through the void is not at all a safe place - it crawls with monsters that our hero has to face using an elaborate arsenal of both close combat and ranged weapons. Moreover, since particular locations literally are hanging in mid-air, a moment of distraction might result in Kidd falling off the map. The game described herein stands out from similar productions because of its method of delivering the story (the actions of the main protagonist are described in real time by a narrator) and the original visuals featuring colorful, hand painted, and highly interactive sceneries. Interestingly enough, in spite of the fairytale-like style of the game, Bastion tells a grim story about the apocalypse. The game has been recognized with many prestigious awards.
Arcade 22 February 2017
A two-dimensional platform game developed by Mixed Bag, an independent duo responsible for the well-received Futuridium EP. The player assumes control over the titular research probe that is tasked with exploring an uncharted, hostile planet in search of a powerful energy source that emanates from its core. forma.8 sees us traverse a hostile world in a manner similar to other metroidvania titles. The probe is self-propelled and subjected to the basic rules of dynamics – the player often has to resort to pressure-sensitive movements in order to get through the natural obstacles or varied enemies, including bosses. Interestingly enough, we encounter various power-ups along the way, which often allow us to gain a temporary advantage over our pursuers. The game is characteristic for its refined graphics based on three-dimensional elements with hand-drawn environment.

As we progress, we get new weapons and upgrades. Missions take place in tours that last for a couple of weeks. The game's campaign (which can be finished in single player mode) is the same for the game's entire community, so the successes and failures of other players influence the story's outcome.

Hand of Fate (PSV)
RPG 17 February 2015
A unique fantasy mix of a card game, a board game and an RPG title. We traverse dungeons, fighting monsters and collecting treasures, but not like in typical role-playing games. Everything happens on a virtual table, with us playing a card game in front of The Dealer. We travel through locations by moving a pawn representing our hero on the table and revealing cards that depict enemies, NPCs, locations, and other elements that make our adventure. When we face an enemy, we are taken to a three-dimensional environment and control the hero like in any other TPP action-RPG title. As befits a card game, Hand of Fate isn’t lacking the option of building one’s deck, consisting of parts of equipment, special attacks, and other bonuses gained during game.
The Binding Of Isaac: Afterbirth (PSV)
A huge (approximately up to for 200 hours of gameplay) DLC expansion for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth from Nicalis studio. It isn’t standalone title, requiring the base game to play. Afterbirth introduces many novelties, including a new final area with a unique boss and ending. However, it doesn’t change the game mechanics, as we once again play a roguelike arcade title, exploring randomly generated locations, discovering secrets and fighting enemies. The gameplay is diversified with additional content in the form of new character, Lilith, new monsters and bosses, as well as previously unavailable items, challenges and locations. What's more, the DLC also modified the interface and expanded the soundtrack. Lastly, players received a new game mode called Greed Mode, in which they take great risks to obtain unique rewards.
Arcade 04 June 2013
Very unique two-dimensional platformer from the independent developer PlayDead. We play as a small boy who sets on dangerous journey to save his sister. He traverses surrealistic landscapes, coming across many deadly traps and running away from monstrous spider, which follow him tirelessly. In terms of gameplay, Limbo borrows from classic platform titles, though not without adding a few original features. The games revolves around advanced physics, which plays crucial role in most puzzles and arcade sequences, during which the players must display quick reflexes. What stands out the most, however, is Limbo’s unique, mysterious and grim atmosphere, mainly coming from its audiovisuals. Sparse use of sound and graphics, consisting only of shades of black and white, makes it look like a work of a movie expressionist from the beginning of 20th century.
