As befits a hack and slash game, Dragon Quest Heroes II focuses on quick and spectacular combat. The player fights hordes of enemies who would pose no threat in a one-on-one fight but can be dangerous in larger numbers. Moreover, from time to time, the protagonist faces powerful bosses; to defeat them, it is necessary to use more advanced tactic. Although the game focuses on arcade hand-to-hand combat, it does not lack a complex plot and script.
