The production is kept in a horror atmosphere and tells the story of a small village of Hinamizawa, which in June 1983 became the scene of a series of brutal murders. The game boils down primarily to passive tracking of the plot presented in text form enriched with simple pictures.

The main character is James Sunderland, who unexpectedly receives a letter from his former beloved asking him to meet in the title town.
