A sequel to the 2013 metroidvania title, developed by Image & Form. Once again, the players are taken to a unique world that combines steampunk with western setting, this time as a female robot looking for her missing friend. The gameplay of SteamWorld Dig 2 doesn’t depart from the groundwork of its predecessor, focusing on digging underground tunnels to reach places of interest and find treasures we can spend to upgrade our equipment. There are also various enemies to defeat with our more or less fancy weapons. Like the previous works of Image & Form, the game features good-looking cartoonish visuals.
A retro-inspired adventure-platform game developed by D-Pad Studios. The protagonist of Owlboy is Otus, an owl-boy from a flying village - Veille. One day, when the village is invaded by sky pirates, our protagonist embarks on a dangerous adventure that will be full of exploration of intriguing locations and battling increasingly difficult opponents. When it comes to mechanics, the title is reminiscent of classic platform games, and during the gameplay we traverse vast areas, fighting or completing various main and side tasks. What sets Owlboy apart from other games of the genre is the fact that our hero can fly, which greatly facilitates completing of platforming sections. During the gameplay, Otus can pick-up and throw various items, and as the time passes, acquires many new skills and useful artifacts. He can also employ the help of an allied marksman, and use him as mobile turret, helping in the elimination of opponents.
An original 2D fighting game developed by Shanghai-based FantaBlade Network Technology, a Chinese team taking its first steps in the game development world. The plot of ICEY follows the titular heroine, led by the mysterious narrator, during her travels through a fictional, enemy-ridden world. When it comes to mechanics, the game is a classic fighting game, with a complex combo system and RPG elements. We learn to use the heroine’s abilities, including powerful attacks, jumps or dodges, which help her in clashes against single enemies, as well as more demanding bosses. However, the game is varied by the addition of the aforementioned narrator, who tells us which way to go, and points us to next enemies. Interestingly enough, we can ignore these tips, which on the one hand, irritates the narrator, but on the other allows us to discover various secrets hidden around the levels.
Sonic Forces (Switch)
Arcade 07 November 2017
Another installment in the popular platform game series by SEGA. The game was developed by Sonic Team, the creators of Sonic Generations and Sonic Colors. Once again, you play as the eponymous super-fast hedgehog, and your task is to lead the resistance and face the evil Doctor Eggman and his army of giant robots. Sonic Forces utilizes the third person perspective. Like in the previous games of the franchise, you traverse the maps full of obstacles and enemies, and collect golden rings. The biggest attraction of the game is undoubtedly the most characteristic feature of the brand - the speed. The protagonist moves so fast that sometimes you may not be able to discern what is happening on screen. The game also features an option to summon alternative versions of Sonic and to control several of them at once — it is the only way to deal with challenges, which are too much for just one Sonic.

A third-person view adventure game developed by Tequila Works studio from Spain, which successfully debuted in 2012 with a post-apocalyptic platformer Deadlight. You assume the role of a boy who is trying to escape a mysterious island that conceals a sinister past. During the course of the game you will solve numerous puzzles, using a magical artifact that allows you to manipulate the environment and time. The title, despite being an action game also includes many platformer elements. The hero travels through an open world, climbs craggy cliffs, and jumps over chasms. Apart from being skilled, you also have to be perceptive, as light, sound, and touch (thanks to the technology offered by PS Vita and DUALSHOCK 4) play a vital role in Rime. The game features a 3D environment, colorful visuals, and a comic book-like visual style.

This time he is taken to a miniature world filled with challenges requiring both skill and logic, as well as many gold coins to collect. Interestingly, the camera can be changed at any moment to look at the level from another perspective. This can be used to discover new paths and many surprises, and each level can be completed in two ways. The game can be completed in cooperation split-screen mode for two players. Visually, Yoshi uses box-like miniature dioramas, resembling Paper Mario series.

Gameplay is based on two-person competition - players take part in various contests, playing as pirates, gunslingers, and other characters. What makes 1-2-Switch stand out from the crowd of other similar games is that we are not watching the screen while playing, but facing our opponent face to face. Thanks to that unique approach, the screen is used mostly for showing the score. 1-2-Switch also makes a good use of the console's unique features, allowing every player to use one of its detachable controllers.

These consoles will allow us to, e.g. activate the station’s engines, defensive systems and gun emplacements. The production has been designed with a co-op mode for two players in mind, and strict cooperation and coordination between both operators is required in order to achieve success. In cases where a second player is unavailable, they will be replaced by an AI player. One of the most distinguishable qualities of the Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime are the colorful, highly abstract 2D visuals and an old-school, electronic soundtrack.
