Battle Chasers: Nightwar (Switch)

A fantasy jRPG featuring a turn-based combat system, based on the popular Battle Chasers comic book series. The game was developed by Airship Syndicate, founded by the creators of the Darksiders game, including the creative director and the comic's author, Joe Maureira. The game is set in a fantasy universe, where magic and science coexist, and you play as the characters known from the comics, such as the warrior Garrison, a little girl called Gully, or the golem Calibretto. Battle Chasers: Nightwar focuses on the plot and the exploration of the expansive randomly-generated dungeons. The game also features many jRPG-style battles, taking place in turns on two separate screens. The visuals are colorful and detailed, which makes them resemble the original comics.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition (Switch)

A remastered edition of the fifth instalment of the famous role-playing game series The Elder Scrolls, developed by Bethesda for PC Windows and eight generation consoles. The story takes place 200 years after the events of Oblivion, and you play as one of the last Dovahkiin – dragon hunters blessed by the gods. When the scaled beasts once again appear in the skies and a prophecy foretells the arrival of Alduin, the god of destruction, you have to stop the oncoming apocalypse. The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim includes the core game, all the official DLC packs, and a wide range of visual upgrades. The developers created e.g. higher-resolution textures and effects such as volumetric lighting or dynamic depth of field. One of the main attractions of this edition is the introduction of fan mod support not only for PC Windows, but also for the console versions of the game.
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle (Switch)

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is a turn-based RPG crossover between two popular franchises, Super Mario and Rabbids, developed by Ubisoft for Nintendo Switch. The iconic heroes of both series (Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach and four Rabbids) take part in our adventure. Gameplay is based on three elements: exploration, quests, and combat. We will explore four diverse worlds filled with secrets and riddles that await to be discovered and solved. Venturing through the game’s world takes place in real-time, but combat is turn-based. We use a wide array of modifiable weapons when in combat. In order to be victorious in battle, we have to skillfully use our hero’s special abilities, think strategically and act tactically, i.e. making a good use of the game’s destructible environment.
Darkest Dungeon (Switch)

A dark fantasy cRPG developed by debuting studio Red Hook. The story is set in a dark, medieval-like universe. While exploring ruins of an old castle and its dungeons, you face off against forces of darkness that overwhelmed the land because of the reckless actions of its previous sovereign. As you delve into the depths, you discover the dark history of a family who brought the evil upon the world. The gameplay focuses on dungeon crawling - dungeons filled with traps and crawling with monsters that need to be dealt with during turn-based combat sequences. An original idea is the sanity indicator of your heroes. Each team member has different personality and reacts differently to what is happening around him/her. Therefore, while playing you should keep an eye on their well being and fear levels, alleviating their stress by drinking alcohol or brawling, if needed.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Switch)

Xenoblade Chronicles is the third entry in the Xenoblade series. The previous entries were Xenoblade Chronicles for Wii and Xenoblade Chronicles X for Wii U. The new entry isn’t directly related to its predecessors, but similarly to Final Fantasy series it shares some common elements with them, including enemies, available items, attacks and character skills. During the adventure the player assumes the role of a boy named Rex. Together with his friend Pyra he starts an epic journey in search for the mythical Elysium that is humanity’s last hope for survival. In order to reach it, the pair and their companions met during the adventure must travel through a vast fantasy world created on the back of monstrous titans.
Pokemon (2018) (Switch)
Pokemon (2018) is another installment of the extrermely popular jRPG series that was created by Game Freak in the 1990’s. It is the first game of the series that was released on home video game consoles. The game's story focuses on a novice pokemon trainer who begins their adventure with a pokemon of their choosing. Our hero explores more and more locations and faces other trainer in order to prove that he/she is the best pokemon trainer in the region. Combat is turn-based. Key to victory lies in skillful usage of our pokemon's attacks and abilities. Each pokemon has its own unique stats, attacks, and abilities that influence its capability in combat. The game has eye-pleasing, cartoonish visuals.
Stardew Valley (Switch)
The debut production from the independent studio Concerned Ape. It is a sandbox RPG that focuses on the life of a farmer. Stardew Valley takes place in a fantasy realm filled with magic, where the player becomes a young farmer whose ambition is to transform his small field into a giant farm generating great profits. The main task of the player is to plant plants, gather the crops and expand the farm with new infrastructure and agricultural products. In order to be more interesting, the game also feature some RPG elements. One can also take active role in the life of the nearby village – make friendships and interact with the inhabitants of the settlement. This unlocks new challenges and earning opportunities for the player. As the game progress, the protagonist gains experience and learns new skills such as farming, mining, fishing, or animal feeding. One can also get married and have children in this randomly generated world.
Fear Effect Sedna (Switch)

The third installment in the Fear Effect series of action games. Both the previous installments were released for the PlayStation console. The game was created by Kronos Digital Entertainment, under the auspices of Square Enix - the owner of the franchise. Contrary to its predecessors, Fear Effect Sedna is a tactical action game played from an isometric view and inspired by Shadowrun Returns - a role-playing game. The action takes place in a cyberpunk world featuring fantasy elements. This time, the characters from the previous installments explore mysterious locations and underground facilities of the frosty Greenland. During the story campaign, the player commands a team comprising up to five mercenaries, each having their own unique skills and specializations. The game offers a real-time combat system, but thanks to the implementation of active pause, the player is allowed to take their time when giving orders to individual units. Occasionally, the player is also obliged to solve puzzles. The third installment in the Fear Effect series offers old-school, cel-shaded graphics as usual.
Dragon: Marked for Death (Switch)

A fantasy action RPG created by experienced developers from Inti Creates. Dragon: Marked for Death takes place in a dark world explored by one of four protagonists called the ‘Dragonkin’. Thanks to the pact the protagonists made with dragons, they have special abilities that give them advantage in battles with monsters in the realm. The action in the game is shown with a side perspective and the gameplay focuses on traveling through various locations, completing story and side missions and participating in real-time battles. Among the opponents there are ones that are many times the size of the protagonists. The key to success lies in taking advantage of the unique skills of selected character. The game can be played alone, but it was designed with cooperation mode for up to four players in mind. The title features graphics that reference 16-bit genre classics.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age (Switch)
The eleventh major installment of the popular jRPG series by Square Enix. The action of Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time takes place in a fantastical land of Lotozetasia, while the player assumes the role of a inhabitant of the Ishi village. On his 16th birthday, he discovers that he is an incarnation of a hero who saved the world from annihilation many years ago. Since then, the youngster’s life takes a radical turn, and his further fate is uncertain. Accompanied by loyal friends, the protagonist embarks on a journey which will seal his destiny. The production is very sandbox — at its core are exploration of the environment, conversing with non-player characters, and performing quests given by them. Turn-based combat is an integral part of the gameplay. To win a battle, we have to adequately develop our character and adjust our equipment accordingly.
YIIK: A Post-Modern RPG (Switch)

YIIK: A Post-Modern RPG is a surrealistic jRPG set in the 1990’s. It was developed by the independent studio Ackk Studios, creators of games like Chromosphere: The Two Brothers and Two Brothers. Story focuses on the mysterious disappearance of Sammy Pak who was taken by supernatural forces while using an elevator. her friends decide to go on a dangerous journey to save her. Single player campaign will give us around twenty five hours of gameplay. Our party of eight moves around an isometric-presented map, every once in a while taking part in turn-based battles against our enemies. The game uses Unity Engine. Visuals in YIIK: A Post-Modern RPG are much different from what we could see in other jRPGs as the game lacks any sort of manga-inspired style. All of the game's dialogues are voice acted.
Project Octopath Traveler (Switch)
A Japanese role-playing game by Square Enix and Silicon, the creators of i.e. well-received Bravely Default: Flying Fairy and Bravely Second. Project Octopath Traveler features a unique style, which blends 16-bit sprites with 3D pixel-art surroundings. During the game, you visit various locations and complete many quests given by the NPCs. The game also features turn-based fights, in which to defeat your opponents you have to make proper use of your characters' abilities.
Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon (Switch)

A sequel to the action RPG from the Japanese studio Gust. Nights of Azure 2 lets us revisit the dark fantasy world, in which humanity rules only by daylight, while night belongs to demonic minions of the Night Lord. However, we won’t see any old faces from first game, as the second game focuses on completely new characters. Players take role of Ashule, a warrior who dies while trying to defend her friend Liliana from a powerful demon and is reborn as half-demonic being. Her main objective is to find and rescue Liliana. Similarly to its predecessor, Nights of Azure 2 is a typical hack and slash with an arcade battle system and TPP view. As she gets more experience, Ashule will unlock more skills and get more powerful in the process. She can also be helped by female companions, and the more often she does that, the stronger bond she creates with them. This in turn lets her learn new powers or unlock news quests.

A spin-off game from the popular Dragon Quest series, developed by a subsidiary studio of the Square Enix company as fantasy jRPG with sandbox features. It takes place in the land of Alefgard, which has been the arena of a great conflict between humans and monsters. Eventually, humans suffer defeat, after their legendary hero falls into enemy trap, and their only hope for rebuilding the civilization is a young hero with astounding skills of creation, controlled by the player. Our task is to gather resources and use the hero’s powers to create items, castles, or even entire towns strengthening humanity, and occasionally face monsters in arcade battles. As befits an RPG game, character progression plays a crucial role in Dragon Quest Builders, as does creating weapons and armors for our hero.
Harvest Moon: Light of Hope (Switch)
Harvest Moon: Light of Hope is another installment of the popular game series that blends elements of JRPGs, adventure games, and farming simulators. It was developed by the Japanese studio Natsume, which got the rights to the Harvest Moon franchise in 2014. In comparison with the previous games of the series, Light of Hope has a more complex scenario with clearly stated goals. We play as a sailor whose ship sank near a small island. Seeing that the island's port town was destroyed by a hurricane, our protagonist decides to help its citizens in rebuilding. As we play, we will farm, rear farm animals, and rebuild various buildings. Our ultimate goal is the restoration of a lighthouse that towers above the island. We will be able to make friends with the islanders and even start our own family.
Has-Been Heroes (Switch)

A rougelike side-scroller developed by Frozenbyte. The players assume control over a ragtag group of heroes a little over their prime. The team receives a final task – escorting two princesses to a special academy. Unfortunately, the mission won’t be easy, as there will be numerous dangers lurking along the way. We begin the game with choosing three characters from an available pool of twelve different heroes. The game sees the trio defend the princesses against continuous waves of varied opponents that force us to switch tactics according to the situation at hand. Each hero carries unique equipment, as well as his own set of spells – in all, we can make use of over 300 spells and 200 items. Our mission will see the players travel through 14 different environments. The clashes are randomly generated, making each playthrough different and challenging. Interestingly enough, loosing (either through death or the capture of princesses) means having to start over from scratch. Has-Been Heroes is characterized by simple, cartoonish art-style.

A comedy open-world RPG developed by The Gentlebros, the creators of the popular Slashy Hero, for mobile platforms. As the title suggests, the protagonist of Cat Quest is a cat that travels an open fantasy world with a sword in his paw and an armor on his back. The story campaign starts when the cat realm of Felingard is attacked by dragons. We assume the role of a cat whose destiny is to become a Dragon Slayer and save its people. While playing, we explore a vast world that is densely filled with various quests. We can visit, among other things, three large cities, forests, mountains, deserts, pirate islands, and dungeons. The production even features sea travel. We draw the route on the screen with our finger. When the hero encounters enemies, the player has to face them in a turn-based combat system. As befits an RPG, Cat Quest offers character development system and the possibility to acquire increasingly better equipment. The game features cartoonish style that fits the game's atmosphere.
Re: Legend (Switch)
Re: Legend is an unusual RPG, which, apart from fighting foes and interacting with NPCs, revolves around catching and training monsters, erecting buildings, and agriculture. Players get to catch diverse species of beasts inhabiting the vast land of Ethia, expand the village, and enter relationships with the villagers. The game has been designed to deliver 4-player cooperative multiplayer mode. Re: Legend stands out in terms of its colorful anime visuals and the dedicated soundtrack written by composers known for creating soundtracks for Final Fantasy series and Metal Gear Solid series. Developed by Magnus Games, Re: Legend has been financed through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. When working on their game, the developers drew multiple inspirations from productions and series such as Rune Factory, Digimon World, Fantasy Life, and Monster Rancher.
Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians (Switch)
A tactical Japanese RPG developed by a team led by Yasumi Matsuno, the creator of such classic games as Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy XII, and Vagrant Story. The action of Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians is set in a fantastical world torn by wars. The campaign tells us the story of the 70-years-long war, the direction of which has been set by the long forgotten warriors. A player assumes the role of one of those warriors. The campaign is divided into two separate chapters, each one presenting a story of a different character. Some tales show only a year from a hero’s life, while others depict even decades. Because of this approach, players can observe the conflict from multiple perspectives as well as learn the course of events and the stories of people participating in the war. The gameplay revolves around turn-based battles waged on 3D maps. During combat, a player commands a team comprising two heroes, each one featuring a unique set of skills and roles. As the story progresses, the character gains more experience and grow stronger.
I am Setsuna (Switch)

A jRPG developed by Tokyo RPG Factory, also known as "Ikenie to Yuki no Setsuna" in Japan. It makes references to the classics of the genre and games such as the legendary classic Chrono Trigger. The story is set in a land of ever-lasting winter. Furthermore, the region is regularly terrorized by demons. In order to satisfy them, the inhabitants decide to sacrifice a girl, the game's eponymous protagonist. Along with a nameless henchman and a mysterious female traveler called Kuon, Setsuna sets out for a long and dangerous journey to the place where the sacrifice is to be made. On her way, she meets many different characters and encounters deadly monsters. The player observes the characters from high above and travels from one location to another using the world map, visiting numerous towns, restocking supplies, buying new equipment and fighting various enemies. The game employs a dynamic turn-based combat system, resembling the one used in early Final Fantasy games or the said Chrono Trigger. Once the player has refilled a special meter, they gain access to different boosts.
Disgaea 5 Complete (Switch)

Disgaea 5 Complete is another installment in the strategic/tactical RPG series created and developed by the Japanese studio Nippon Ichi Software since 2003. Disgaea games are characterized by a high dose of fourth-wall breaking humor and frequent references to pop-culture. Disgaea 5 is the first game in the series that was released on Nintendo Switch. We play as Killia, a young demon who wants to free his world from the rule of the dark lord of the underworld. To defeat the enemy, Killia has to unite all of the conquered and threatened worlds. He goes on a dangerous journey along which he recruits many unusual allies. Most of the time we will spend on three dimensional battlefields covered with square tiles. Combat is turn-based. In battle, we will use combinations of attack, spells, and special abilities. Along with the new classes, the developers have introduced the option of banding our heroes into units, and the Revenge system connected with that option. Disgaea 5 has the same characteristic visual style of the previous iterations and looks like an interactive anime.
