Nintendo Switch is the successor of Nintendo Wii and Wii U consoles and is widely considered to be the first hybrid console on the market. It allows users to play games either at home on a big TV screen or while travelling. This is possible thanks to its revolutionary design, which combines features of both stationary and handheld consoles. It is composed of two main parts: the console unit, which is a 6.2" screen tablet based on Nvidia technology, and the docking station necessary to connect the console to a TV set. Nintendo Switch was released worldwide on March 3, 2017.

Bayonetta (Switch)

Action 16 February 2018

A dynamic third-person perspective hack-n-slash action game developed by Japanese studio Platinum Games led by Hideki Kamiya. The main protagonist, Bayonetta, is a sexy witch who, 20 years prior to the events depicted in the game, woke up in a chest at the bottom of a lake. She has no memories of how she got there or what happened before. Forced to fight against forces of Heaven that constantly attack her, the protagonist gradually learns new facts about her past. The gameplay focuses on traveling through subsequent locations while eliminating enemies and very original bosses. During the game, the player uses a mix of handguns and melee weapons (including items taken from fallen enemies). By using the power of her hair, Bayonetta can also summon powerful demons and hellish torture machines that allow her to eliminate her enemies in a very effective way. Witch Time, a very useful ability that slows time, proves to be an alternative key to victory in most cases.

Fire Emblem Warriors (Switch)
Fire Emblem Warriors (Switch)

Action 20 October 2017

Fire Emblem Warriors is a spin-off of the popular jRPG series Fire Emblem that was released on Nintendo Switch. The game that was created by Omega Force and Nintendo is quite different from what we could see in the series' previous installments. Instead of a turn-based tactical RPG, we get a fantasy hack'n'slash that uses the series' characteristic elements and characters, and throwing in only a couple of RPG elements. In terms of gameplay, Fire Emblem Warriors uses mechanics similar to those from the Dynasty Warriors game series.

Attack on Titan 2 (Switch)
Attack on Titan 2 (Switch)

Action 20 March 2018

A sequel to the 2016 game Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom. Attack on Titan 2 (also known in Europe as A.O.T. 2) was developed by Omega Force (the creators of e.g. Dynasty Warriors), which belongs to Koei Tecmo. The story was based on the second season of the anime, but thanks to the cooperation of the franchise's original creator Hajime Isayama, it also features new plot threads. The production is a TPP action game. You play as trained warriors, who fight the Titans—gigantic humanoid creatures. The second installment features more playable characters and an improved controls system, which also gives you more freedom. The game also allows you not only to fight monsters, but also get to know the key characters.

Dragon Quest Heroes I & II (Switch)

Action 03 March 2017

Dragon Quest Heroes I & II for Nintendo Switch is a collection of two third-person hack-and-slash games and Dragon Quest series spin-offs developed by Omega Force. Both games are 3D hack-and-slash titles, very similar to the Dynasty Warriors series in terms of gameplay. As we play, we will explore enormous open locations and fight with hordes of enemies. The available heroes have different attacks and special abilities. They can block and evade attacks, which comes in handy when facing the gigantic bosses that require from the players a bit more tactical approach. The Nintendo Switch versions of the games previously released on PlayStation include all DLCs and exclusive content, and brand new characters and scenarios.

Wulverblade (Switch)
Wulverblade (Switch)

Action 12 October 2017

A side-scrolling platformer based on classic premise and created as a result of a cooperation between the independent Fully Illustrated studio and the Darkwind Media company. The player is taken to 120 AD, when the forces of the Roman Empire invade the southern part of Britain. The player assumes the role of a fearless warrior by the name of Caradok, who decides to face the attackers on his own and violently ask them to leave. The player will explore eight extensive levels set in different environments, such as ancient forests, mountain streams, or Roman defense walls. The protagonist moves to the right throughout the game, eliminating hordes of enemies using a sword and a shield, as well as his fists and head. The visuals are slightly caricatural and cartoonish; the visual style features exaggerated character models and a large portion of brutality.

Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star (Switch)
Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star (Switch)

Action 21 July 2017

Developed by Marvelous AQL, another installment of the third-person perspective action games subseries of the Fate franchise, which after a longer break returns to gaming consoles. The action of Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star takes place after events from Fate/EXTRA. As the previous war comes to an end, the supercomputer Moon Cell Automaton takes over the world and sends the players to a digital kingdom known as SE.RA.PH., where they have to fight one more battle for freedom. Mechanics slightly resemble productions from the Dynasty Warriors series. During gameplay you control one of 16 characters known as Servants – there are both some new and old characters. Each of the aforementioned figures possesses unique, great powers that you can use in combat with tens (or even hundreds) of enemies at the same time. In contrast to the other titles in the franchise, representing either jRPG or visual novel genres, this production features fast and spectacular action in the form of a hack-and-slash.

Dragon Quest Heroes II (Switch)
Dragon Quest Heroes II (Switch)

Action 03 March 2017

An action game with numerous RPG elements. Similar to its predecessor, it is a spin-off title in the Dragon Quest franchise by Square Enix, and although it retains a similar atmosphere, it offers several new solutions. The plot of Dragon Quest Heroes II references the events of its predecessor. Despite the lack of any direct links to the core Dragon Quest productions, there are a few familiar faces to see here. As befits a hack and slash game, Dragon Quest Heroes II focuses on quick and spectacular combat. The player fights hordes of enemies who would pose no threat in a one-on-one fight but can be dangerous in larger numbers. Moreover, from time to time, the protagonist faces powerful bosses; to defeat them, it is necessary to use more advanced tactic. Although the game focuses on arcade hand-to-hand combat, it does not lack a complex plot and script. Dragon Quest Heroes II offers three-dimensional graphics which resemble Japanese manga and anime stylistics.

Heart&Slash (Switch)
Heart&Slash (Switch)

Action 22 December 2017

A third-person action game that combines hack and slash and roguelike elements. Heart&Slash started out as a minor project of an indie developer, which grew in time thanks to the financial support gathered on Kickstarter. The action takes place in a distant future, where humanity no longer exists. In the game, we assume the role an unusual robot who wants to discover his own identity and become loved. Before he can achieve this goal, the protagonist has to free himself from under the rule of the QuAsSy system that controls everyone. While playing, we traverse randomly generated locations and fight hostile robots. The combat system brings typical hack and slash game to mind and offers various kinds of firearms and melee weapons. Heart&Slash’s RPG elements allow us to develop our character by changing his parts. Should the hero die, we have to start playing from scratch but we preserve the skills we have gathered up to that point. Heart&Slash features simple 3D graphics enriched with cel-shading technology.
