Resident Evil 4 HD

A remastered edition of the fourth installment in the legendary Resident Evil series, regarded as the most important one in the franchise. The original title was published in 2005 on GameCube and PlayStation 2. In Resident Evil 4 you assume the role of Leon S. Kennedy, the famous policeman from the second installment, who travels to Spain in order to find the president’s lost daughter. The mission turned out to be more complicated than he thought – he has to fight hundreds of mutants infected with a virus and a mysterious sect ruled by Osmund Saddler. Gameplay is almost identical to the original title, as the developers decided not to alter mechanics and focused on converting graphics to HD. Most of textures and the lighting system are updated and an achievement system typical for contemporary productions was also implemented.

Resident Evil 4 HD published on Xbox 360 is a remastered edition of the fourth instalment of the legendary survival horror series developed by Capcom from Japan. The original version was released in 2005 on Nintendo GameCube and PlayStation 2, then it was ported to e.g. PC, Nintendo Wii, and iOS. Due to the continuous popularity of the game, after 6 years, the creators decided to release the game’s refreshed version on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Plot

You assume the role of Leon S. Kennedy known from the second instalment, who is a former policeman from Racoon City. Now he works as a secret agent in the US government and is in charge of, for example, safety of the president’s family. The hero is sent with a secret mission to Europe - his quest concerns saving the daughter of the president, who went there to study and mysteriously disappeared. The trace leads to the town of Pueblo in Spain, but once Leon got there, he realised that there are many more mysteries behind the whole story. To reveal them, Leon will have to face hundreds of mutants infected with a dangerous parasite called “las plagas” and fight a sect, led by charismatic Osmund Saddler, which controls minds of the village’s inhabitants.

Mechanics

Mechanically, Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD Edition is a faithful copy of the version from 2005. The action is seen from the third-person perspective and the camera hangs behind the hero’s back. Leon fights enemies with an impressive arsenal of weapons, including machine guns, rifles, shotguns, grenade launchers, and even a crossbow with explosive bolts. The game is supplemented with numerous, yet quite easy, puzzles, boss fights, and impressive Quick Time Events sequences, during which you need to push buttons displayed on the screen.

Technical aspects

Resident Evil 4 HD is mostly different from its original version in visibly improved and refreshed visuals. The developer converted graphics to HD and updated sharpness along with lighting. To make the game more up-to-date, it was implemented with achievements that can be unlocked during gameplay.
