Playa Games' browser-based productions are generally characterized by a humorous approach. After the success of Shakes & Fidget, the creators decided to face the football RPG, using many proven solutions from their earlier works.

In SoccerStar players play the role of a beginner who starts his career on the fields. As befits a cRPG title, the hero is defined by a number of attributes, in this case defining his position on the pitch as well as his skills.

The game focuses on gaining poplarity and developing character traits through tedious trainings, as well as collecting funds for the purchase of equipment, including elements of football outfit and nutrients. Players are limited by the energy that is used for most of the activities in the game. The hero's vitality is renewed once a day, but in addition, a part of his energy can be recovered in a physiotherapeutic office, paying for the service with a special currency.

The main advantages of SoccerStar are social options. Players can associate in clubs, and by investing in their development, receive bonuses for the capital gained and training effects. In addition, playing in a club allows you to take part in a match with another team, which in turn gives you a chance to earn money and gain popularity necessary to advance to the next levels.

The SoccerStar visuals strongly resemble the Shakes & Figdet convention. Both characters and scenes are shown in a parodystic, comic form.

The game is distributed on a free-to-play basis. Access to some options, however, requires payment in a special currency, which is difficult to obtain during a free game, and the only way to take more in a short time turns out to be to buy for real money.
