Mean Streets is an adventure with a traditional point-n-click interface, which started a legendary series about the adventures of private detective Tex Murphe. The game was produced by Access Software studio.

Tex Murphy is a private detective living in Los Angeles in 2033. He struggles to make ends meet and has an unburnt face that often packs him into serious trouble. At the same time, however, he has a good heart that does not allow him to tolerate evil and injustice. Mean Streets action begins when Tex is hired to solve the murder mystery of a local university professor. It soon turned out that the scientist was a member of a group of eight people working on the Overlord Project, whose task was to develop a method of remote control of people. Soon after the investigation has begun, other people involved in the case begin to die, as if someone were trying to cover up the whole case. Worse still, the list of suspects grows every day, including the head of the British intelligence service, the president of a company dealing with eavesdropping, and even the daughter of a dead professor.

Mean Streets is a classic adventure, which is why we spend most of our time searching locations, collecting traces, interrogating witnesses and suspects and solving riddles. The gameplay is enhanced by the fact that Tex is a private detective. We can contact our own secretary or informant at any time and ask for their assistance in the investigation. In addition, during dialogues, there is an option to bribe or intimidate the interlocutor. Between the cities we travel by a flying car known as the Lotus Speeder and these sections have the form of a simple flight simulator.

The game was produced based on VGA technology, which allowed the authors to offer 256 colors in 320 x 240 resolution, which was a huge achievement in 1989. Mean Streets was one of the first productions on the market to boast such advanced graphics. In addition, a wide range of live actors were used, especially in intermittent scenes. The main role was played by Chris Jones - one of the main designers and co-founder of Access Software studio.
